This is painful to read, but I'm not that surprised; when you have a culture that values social harmony (or whatever passes for it) above an individual's well-being, stuff like this keeps happening and people who just aren't able to conform either drop or are dropped through the cracks. The only thing you can do when you've been marginalized like that is to find a support network of other marginalized people; Saitou was really lucky to have found someone who understands.

Saitou first suicide attempt was unbearable to watch, she wasn't asking for help, she was ready to die... fuck...

Obviously his behavior is abhorrent, but the problem with his reasoning is that him being violent with her is a huge part of why she's having so much difficulty adapting to the real world. He's taught her that the proper way to vent your frustrations and anxieties is through violence
