You got a point, but it's one thing to face past mistakes and move forward, and another it's to be haunted by them. Nano had already gotten over the Rentaro and Mimimi thing, but getting a "reset" midway through due to "plot issues" is unfair. I know it's a bit of a dick move, but if it's written properly, it can help to build a good progress in both, the story and the characters; that's exactly what happened in Binbougami ga and Ushio to Tora in their final arcs.
