I think it's actually worse — she did this through indirect means! Her company was the show's sponsor, not its owner, and pressured the toy designers and writers to not only change the design of the toys but to make a reason for the change into the fiction.
It's like finding out that the reason that Bumblebee couldn't talk in the Transformers movies was because a ketchup executive's kid kept pretending their toy said inappropriate things, so the exec paid off Michael Bay.
