nagito Danganronpa
It's not just manga, that's just Japanese society in a nut shell. There's even a Japanese proverb for it: "出る杭は打たれる (The nail that sticks out gets hammered down)". Japan is a heavily collectivist society, and doesn't appreciate those that try to stand out of their place in society. It's part of the reason domestic abuse and bullying goes unchecked for so long, the idea that bringing it up or getting help means you are bringing unwanted attention and therefore inconveniencing everyone around you. Same reason for why the "Ijime" style of bullying exists and has the teachers take part: "the bullying victim must be in the wrong for drawing attention to themselves and therefore must be put down".According to manga, if you stand out by helping others, you get bullied/taken advantage of. If you keep to yourself, you get bullied. If you're average, you get bullied. Apparently, there's no winning.
