a few chapters in and it kinda seems like they just blatantly mashed together omniscient reader and solo leveling -
all of Earth is dropped into a death game for the amusement of gods who watch and comment as if it's a livestream, donating coins to people they like, while the MC is a disaffected Korean guy who has an advantage because he's already seen everything that the game can throw at you and knows how to maximally exploit everything. then he uses shadow magic on the people he defeats, which get more powerful and more intelligent the more they develop

The writing is so atrociously bad don't bother reading it.
The MC is like: I have been playing this for 17 years, now that my life depends on it, I choose the only class I don't know and only have a vague idea that it might work in theory (like a dark souls full luck build)

Why are there observers (chat)? I don’t even think they’re gods since one said something about “being at the forefront of humanity”. So fucking annoying.

I’ve never been so disappointed, how in the Nero did this shitfest get a rating of 8? I thought it would get better in the later chapters, but it’s been an absolute snooze fest. MC has obvious plot armor, and since there’s no comedic aspect to it, it’s just cringe and boring. Apologies to the people who read this, I pray you get to read a better story next time.
In essence, this story has mediocre writing, MC has no personality, nonexistent world building, stupid copy pasted ideas with no substance, this could not be enjoyed even in my sleep.

Enjoyability: 2/10 - Very obvious plot armor, waste of time.
World Building: 1/10 - Very focused on the boring main character.
Art: 5.8/10 - While the art isn’t bad, it just feels bland.
Main Character: 1/10 - Most bland character I’ve ever seen, no personality, even flour has better personality.

Overall Rating: 2.45/10 - On behalf of the author, I apologize to the people who wasted more than an hour reading this.

taking into account how people usually rate series like this, this should be at max a 7.5/10. no idea how it's at 8.5/10

personally, i started getting weary at chapter 3 and couldnt get past chapter 5 due to the horrendous storytelling so far

For those that missed it, he does clearly explain his reasoning for this. In his dream, he'd always been in a party with specialized roles. The class he chooses is more versatile, suited towards being a solo player.

Lots of hate in this thread. I guess the people who like the series don't bother to leave a comment. In my opinion the concept here is relatively fresh, compared to some of the other slop in the genre. The art is good, albeit a bit generic. I'm about 20 chapters in and still enjoying it.

Looks like I'm the minority here as someone who likes this one lol. Plot is straightforward and doesn't really take any risks, and setting is very much inspired from other series - but at least it takes the time to actually develop a fantasy world rather than just being another "Earth but now powers!?!" that I'm pretty tired of.

However, what I like about this series in particular, are the characters and their development over time. This is most apparent by chapter 84, after we've gotten a closer look at the past and motivations of more of the shadows and more of his past "Pieces".
