For me this manga started going downhill when Nagisa and Mashiro first got together. The author decided that she was done exploring their overwhelmingly great chemistry and started doing side quests. I know I am not the only one who did not want to see the teacher student romance play out, since it is rather unrelated to the main couple (since their screen time got cut significantly to allow the side story to happen) and the characters involved in the love triangle were as interesting as potatoes (except for the homie friend girl whose name I forget). I was really hoping the author would redeem the story by refocusing the main couple, but again disappointment followed.Nagisa is a great girlfriend and grounded person. That was actually established as such. It also was established that Mashiro is not 100% well mentally thus her overreacting and partially enabling whatever this is.
Also, I do hope you can see that the author clearly fully changed Nagisa for these 3 chapters to enable 1) the useless nothing drama as a whole, 2) the new "character" (would call her a tool but she had no use at all?) being allowed to talk at all and 3) her completely disregarding Mashiro's everything and acting plain stupid (Mashiro was just as stupid these 3 chapters, tho).
Chill out and enjoy these some chapters of absolute dogshit writing that clearly is filler for more pages=bag. Shit happens, author did great for 40 chaps, no need to go nuclear on one questionable decision made by a greedy editor (assumption).
I just now saw your comment with the new chapter releasing and, yep, I agree with 99% you typed. Pretty much all side chars are super underdeveloped or act out one sole reason. This in turn makes pretty much anything but the main plot zero impact. For me this manga started going downhill when Nagisa and Mashiro first got together. Yamada to Kase-san is a good example of how I expected this manga to played out. Kase-san was okayish but this manga had great potential and art to deliver a better quality fluff story.
I never did read finish Kase-san, even the first part haha. I got stuck in chapter 20 something of the original manga but didn't find it too engaging. It wasn't bad, but I wasn't too into it. But by the way you describe it, I can't help but be curious about how bad the later developments get.I just now saw your comment with the new chapter releasing and, yep, I agree with 99% you typed. Sure, Yuri coming true and new one blooming is nice and all but it feels like the author just went with the trend (recently many pump the main pair to then hyper focus on side chars with almost zero screen time) but fucked up.
Also agree with reshifting the focus onto the main pair backfiring completely. The side stuff was done somewhat well which in turn makes this... pile of steaming 1/10 dogshit (I still love this series dearly but holy shit author, get a grip) that reads more like a 8th grade writing exercise seem even worse.
A stranger telling me "I liked the zero love only study Nagisa more! SO COOL!" into "Ask yourself what your girlfriend must be thinking" would have me beat her ass up. Mashiro was just as stupid these chapters but Nagisa was full on neglectful and non-responsive (tbh, that just was poor writing tho. That is not her established char).
As for the Kase-san bit... I can relate to what you typed only if we talk about the first series. Kase-san was an incredibly Yuri that failed miserably in it's sequel from being kept on life support for far too long.
The Fukami bit was embarrassingly bad writing almost at the exact same level as here and Kase was almost fully ruined in the process. And it dragged on for SO. FUCKING. LONG. And every single chapter made her a worse girlfriend and person overall. Nagisa luckily isn't even 1/4th as bad a girlfriend as Kase.
That is not even close to all the stuff but if you ever have to show someone a GIGA BAD girlfriend, show them Kase. I only enjoyed when Yamada's best friend actually in words called her out for being such a disgustingly selfish poor gf. Goated chapter.Kase rooming with another girl and bonding heavily when not needed, missing important events over and over, putting Yamada second every single time until called out, leaving Yamada all alone to search for an apartment to then tell her she will make it to a showing but then ditching her again for non-important sports stuff, going along with a race about wether she was allowed to move out when the apartment was already chosen etc.
