It's apparently different in the novel (which I haven't read), but in this manhua essentially they are two personalities sharing the same body (hers). He's more or less a walking ghost who hasn't given up on what he cares about and she goes along with it for some reason. They're connected and understand each other though, since she used to be him. I'm not sure Hulk is a good comparison since both Ji Bai and Bai Ji are equally intelligent and almost equally strong, they just have different worldviews and interests.

My understanding is blurred, as I read both this and the webnovel.

But I always thought it was 1 person. And that due to the trauma/training/conditioning the one person behaves and thinks a bit differently when they are Bai ji.

It's not a great analogy by any means, but it's sorta like how a politician or celebrity will act one way in public, but entirely differently in private.

I think I would agree with katelyngadd that this Manhua seems to have them being 2 more distinct personalities that cooperate, though it is hard to tell whether they are "merging" or becoming more distinct.

It's not perfectly consistent or depicted clearly I think.

After reading your replies and a bit of re-reading I think it's closer to how @chairlight puts it. (All my source is only the manhua, never read the web novels! )

Spoiler: Crazy people reading comments of latest chapters having not read the rest of the series! - BEWARE :p

The Knight was defeated in battle, captured and 'converted' via magical and psychological means to the Vampire - This process was incomplete resulting in a split personality with the Vampire side being recessive and he gets physically / mentally stressed into her form and personality. (a situation similar to the conversion in the first place?)

Then how would someone explain Bai Ji being drained of mana and reverting to a Knight body with Vampire colourings if the vampire was the dominant form (Ch.97). That insinuates that the unpowered "natural" state of the body is definitely the Knights whilst it was holding onto the vestiges of vampire power...!

Even with what I was thinking above I think i'm gonna reread the whole thing anyway >.< (at least what's on the 'dex) and I might come back to this
