So the creatures are psychic, have a society, have a way to infest others, and can swarm enemies. It really is all four cave movies from 2005 put into one.

Yep, I was right. There's WAY more than one, and in all sorts of sizes!

Also the scene with Akane was genuinely a 0 to 100 moment. Actually managed to make me think everything with her would be fine given she had a full conversation before suddenly her eye fell out.
