So these things presume to think they are people, and have some kind of culture? Kind of kills the horror aspect, since they were more unsettling as seemingly feral humanoids rather than uncivilized tribal people. Kinda lowered my appreciation for this story, but not enough to drop it. Now I wanna see their "god"; could it just be an empty hole? Could it be another monster? Could it actually be a god? Only one way to find out.

It ties into the first chapter, the beheaded samurai clan mirrors these things beheading the streamer. These things are probably tied to the clan and their lost treasure somehow. They may even be infested remnants of that clan guarding the treasure.

The Cave God might even be some kind of fungoid monster that secretes that mutagenic slime (which may be its real offspring). It totally lives in the hole. This is reaching HP Lovecraft levels of stuff.

Side note, I only now realize that the priest of that temple is very likely at least partially infected. Dang weirdies always being related to the thingy the speak of doom of.

How do these guys survive though. I assume so many of em need quite a lot of food. Seeing how they sacrifice the humans they catch or convert em their food source must be something else.
