Nanpai is a fboy, guess we forgot about him. Yamada is literally getting way more popular than ever she’s getting articles written about her man am I speaking a different language? I’m so confused how literally everything I said is being completely misunderstood.
I'm pretty sure you said "a girl like Yamada would NEVER date a guy like Ichikawa, end of story." and I just pointed out that it can totally happen.
You said there's 0% chance, I said there is a good chance. Also, aegnorosto said "Ichikawa and Yamada's relationship isn't as implausible as people often portray it."
Why are you making it like the thing we said is incomprehensible?

Oh my goodness gracious, I said if you put them in the real world it’s unlikely they would date I was not talking about them in the manga at all, in a literal sense. So now all of a sudden we’re lying to ourselves and thinking model women out here are looking to date people that are low key and hardworking good guys like Ichikawa? It can theoretically happen yes, it’s just way more likely to not happen.

I said that but you’re all completely ignoring the context of the sentence and it’s getting to a point where you all are just ganging up on me and not even making any effort to understand my original point.

first of all, nobody is ganging up on you, people are just having a discussion, even a fairly civil one by internet standards at least.

Regardless, I don't get the purpose of saying a situation between two people as portrayed in this manga is unlikely to happen in real life, when talking about the manga. You initially said that to prove a point that the manga wasn't realistic since the beginning (please correct me if I'm wrong, and if that's the case also provide the actual correct thing you were saaying), quote of the relevant part from your first message:

Here’s my main point, BokuYaba is not a realistic story, never was, never will be. If BokuYaba was “realistic” from the beginning, as all these defenders of this silly drama arc that was poorly created and executed keep spamming over and over, then a girl like Yamada would NEVER date a guy like Ichikawa, end of story. If you applied this story’s circumstances to the real world, all of this would never happen. And even in the rarest instance these two kinds of people got together, a girl like Yamada in the real world would’ve cheated on a guy like Ichikawa by now. In the actual manga, Ichikawa and Yamada had a fairytale-type of love story, they only had one significant hiccup in 9 volumes leading to the confession. Since BokuYaba wasn’t playing all this “realistic teen social status drama” before for 10 volumes, like you guys are so fervently defending now, then what right is there to criticize those who don’t like it and consider it to be forced when BokuYaba wasn’t like this from the start.

Edit: sorry, sent the message too early. continuing from here.

You yourself say that is your main point, and people have been answering that saying that the story has always been like that, and that being realistic isn't the point

Oh we’re having a civil discussion? Easy for you to say. Everyone who’s replied to me took one sentence I said out of context and has ran with that without making any effort to understand my broader argument, until this reply. This entire thing started from a user who said verbatim “I don’t care for the rest of your argument.” But that’s civil?

And whenever I’ve tried to explain myself, people throw the exact same sentence back at me and are acting like I seriously believe Yamada wouldn’t date Ichikawa or something, like I’m challenging or criticizing their literal relationship, which is not what I said at all nor was my intent. I was saying people LIKE them in the real world, in the same social standing and whatnot that they have, with how modern dating is nowadays, wouldn’t get together barring an unlikely circumstance.

Regardless, I don't get the purpose of saying a situation between two people as portrayed in this manga is unlikely to happen in real life, when talking about the manga. You initially said that to prove a point that the manga wasn't realistic since the beginning
I stated this to counter all these comments that kept saying “oh this is realistic and inevitable anyone who disagrees is blind or wants forced bad writing etc etc” from what I perceived as fairly arrogant vibes. It just seemed anyone who was critical beyond just saying “I don’t like this” or “I don’t understand” was getting unfair pushback. From my understanding, I was getting the sense that people were saying just because BokuYaba is taking the “realistic” approach of new relationship issues, that it means it’s automatically good and criticism from people who don’t like this development is just inherently wrong, which I took issue with.
You yourself say that is your main point, and people have been answering that saying that the story has always been like that, and that being realistic isn't the point

No, people have answered me by throwing points at me for why Yamada would date Ichikawa in the manga and how their relationship isn’t implausible, which wasn’t my initial argument at all. Someone also took issue from an angle that I was criticizing the trope of hot girl x nerdy guy, which also wasn’t accurate. The only replies that actually properly interpreted what I said was an interview point and a social status point, which I admitted was right, and now yours. If being realistic isn’t the point then I’m missing something from other replies saying “hey you can’t criticize this because it’s realistic.”

I trust Norio and I doubt this will drag TOO long (but just long enough) and they will be stronger. I just wish that this released weekly, especially with the amount of pages we get every two weeks.
Author is dragging this a lot. Low amount of pages, no progress, almost a month between chapters. It's really tough to keep the tension going, although I'm liking where this is going, I do hope Yamada and Kyou either fix their issue or break up, since it's only been Yamada on the spotlight for a long time, I want Kyou to have something for himself as well. He's only been receiving L's so far. Not sure where the author is taking this story...
As I've said before, I wouldn't mind if the manga released once a quarter or even slower if it meant that the Sakurai Norio doesn't overwork herself and doesn't burn out. It's a very demanding job, and I hope she stays healthy both physically and mentally for as long as the story requires. The anon doing the translations needs to stay healthy and motivated too.

Is this something I'm too gaijin to understand?

Japan isn't some archipelago cut off from the world anymore, like they must know that everywhere outside of there, South Korea and China (?), celebrities, female celebrities don't have to pretend to be little wee untouched maiden virgins to sell.

The issue keeps being addressed and criticized in their own media, so how long are they going to pretend?

Is the problem that no idol or actress wants to take the heat by being the trailblazer and dating openly?

And I get that parasocial incels are a big part of their revenue but why pander that much to them when they realistically can't be all their fans? There must some Japanese fans sane enough to know that their faves personal lives is none of their business, or even some smart enough to see this as bonus content and something to live through vicariously if their idol is sharing couple pics!

It's so stupid! Anna is saboting her life and couple just so that randos don't seethe online. Who cares?! It's even crazier since we're talking about teenage romance so why the self-imposed drama?

This developpment is too infuriating for me. The nonsense about her pretending to reject Ichi was already moronic enough. Are they seriously supposed to never be seen together until they're old enough to announce their marriage or what? Super plan

This chapter is the most the band will probably ver contribute to the story during or after the band arc.

Ok so, I know this chapter is trying to mirror chapter 80, however, unlike in chapter 80 that has Kyo's inner speech to express his feeling, I don't even know what is going through Ana head at that moment, and the song lyrics that are supposed to stand in for Ana's inner thoughts, to me at least, just make no fcking sense, if anything it feel like it's Kyo's inner thoughts.

Also the vibe between the two chapters is totally different to me. In chapter 80, the vibe is joyous, Ana is happy to be there, so it makes sense that Kyo don't want to intrude, but this chapter, my boy looks like he is being forced to sit there.

Is it just me or is there anyone out there thinking similar?

I recommend rereading chapter 127 and the extra with lyrics instead. In ch.166 when Yamada walks off, the lyrics speech bubbles show the first verse. It's the part of the song, which uses the watashi pronoun instead of boku (the pronoun used by Kyoutarou). I.e. it's Yamada's confession and her own description of her flaws.

P.S. The chapter's title is half a line from the song and also uses watashi.

Development for Yamada? Hell yes. Good chapter.

I like that this isn't forced or sudden, it's been set up volumes ago. I wasn't expecting the symbolism between their first kiss and this episode, but with a different meaning.

I uh, haven't read this in a while. Can someone tell me why she didn't go on stage after she said she would? And why there's suddenly tension between the two? I'm lowkey confused and a lost child

That's a good observation. As you say, it's clearly portayed as a mirroring scene to the first performance which ended in a emotional reunion and although having the same setup, leads to a different outcome this time around. Both times, Kyo's song is playing in the background and it's safe to assume the lyrics shown hold importance to the scene. I think withholding Yamada's thoughts during this is a deliberate choice in order to show the polarity between both situations, like two sides of the same coin.

Last time they were separated but Kyo ended up staying and Yamada found him, removing their doubts and completing the scene. This time she knows where he is, Kyo is waiting for Yamada but she doesn't show up, the roles are then reversed with him searching for her not knowing she's left already.

It's hard to say what exactly is conveyed here but considering the recent developments and hints towards the future, my idea is that they're setting up for a climactic moment where all these underlying issues are brought to the surface, potentially leading to a temporary breakup due to them being unable to handle these tough questions.
