Thinking exactly the same. For me, it's just Kobayashi making lies to Flirt-pai for him to stop messing with Yamada. I only get a confirmation when I see Bakashiyo talking with Moeko or Serine about that topic.

Honestly not sure if Kobayashi will get hurt. Ever since Ichikawa played with her siblings, I kinda feel like she’s developed an interest towards him. I just hope she’s upset they kept it a secret rather than her having feelings for him.

I'm thinking there is a chance to get a retcon, showing us Bayashiko having a crush on Kyotaro all along since start of Junior High School but now getting in terms with the fact she lost against Yamada.

Yeah... Nanjou Haruya finally seems to have noticed and accepted the feelings of his childhood friend, there, Mamiya. About damn time. Guy needed to settle down with her at least since being rejected by Anna, but I guess he needed this closure, first. It's realistic, I suppose. Like pretty much all the other writing for this story.

The 'backup' is his childhood friend that's been waiting for a long time for him to notice her feelings. I feel like this was just him getting more proper closure so he could move on properly from his crush and accept said childhood friend's feelings.

He started getting closure at graduation when he put on the 'performance' of confessing, since he already had an idea that he'd be rejected, if you paid attention. I'm quite confident he wasn't actually intending to get between them at that stage- sometimes you confess confident you'd be rejected to clear the air.

It's his childhood friend Mamiya that Moeko and others seemed to already think was his girlfriend and he was just polygamus, but he was nothing of the sort. She's just been waiting in the wings for him to notice her feelings, and with him finally fully over Anna, he has now done so.

He came looking for closure so that he could move on, so that he could put an end to his feelings for her, so that he could go out without any baggage with the girl who he now knew was the one who really loved and cared for him all through high school. Be a little more tactful and clever than that. I know manga readers are usually tarded but this level of retardation is unhealthy.

And they're actually childhood friends, so he's probably known her since well before middle school.

She wasn't his gf. She was just a childhood friend (a childhood friend that was in love with him, but still). And he didn't just turn around after being rejected again, this was just him getting full closure so he could move on. Is he not allowed to do that? Even during the graduation arc, he was already figuring out he didn't have a chance. The confession back then was pure ceremony, as his childhood friend told Moeko. It was a performance to 'clear the air'. and let Anna and Kyo progress. He wasn't trying to get in the way of them at that point, and he wasn't trying to get in the way of them here.

First the information that Yamada and Ichikawa are dating, second a straight up warning by Chii to stop messing with Yamada, and finally a superb punch in the family jewels (plus a few kicks to boot).
Hope he never shows up again and the girl decides to ditch him after realizing she can't change a scumbag

She's his childhood friend, so she probably knows better than anyone what he's like. To be honest, it's not like he's even all that bad, since by the time of Graduation, he had already basically given up on Yamada, and the 'confession' was just a performance to get it out of the way, clear the air, etc... This was more of the same, it seems. With this, he was able to finally get full closure and move on so he could give his childhood friend the attention she deserves.
