tbh after valentines I expected some more significant progress but the mangaka is like "NO! lets add more drama and obstacles first!" it kind of feels like a Komi san where they're gonna add filler and more filler.

Also the "problem" with the celebratory girls like the girl in the mask, the mangaka just forgot about that. In Page 7 she was there to witness Ichikawa trying to get close to Yamada but I guess its just ignored... its as if the problem about that mask girl wasnt a problem at all but the mangaka made it so when they were introduced...

I think the progress isn't really that bad and I mean you're like 6 chapters away from the most progress you could ask for. Also Komi took 300 chapters💀

The progression from this manga over the last 30+ chapters has been freakin awesome, definitely could be my favorite rom com of all time depending on how it goes

This is the trip from first-year middle school, the one he was grouped with the popular kids who he deliberately grossed out, then made an excuse not to actually go on (which lead him to become largely a shut-in for several months). It's the first important part of Icchi's backstory that Yamada got and it definitely stuck in the front of her mind.

Every time I get close to forgetting that she is now an actress, the author reminds me.
And now she wants to be the FMC in a Kimi Iro adaptation, do any of them realize that would mean she eventually kissing another guy by the time they get to vol 12? Maybe even before she even kisses him? And yes, that is my main peeve with the manga, the rest is very good, though slow.

well we know now that everything was meticulously planned, you have to let the author cook

People giving this manga shit for its progress feels so absurd to me, but then I watched the anime before I came here, so I already knew the story beats and how well they felt like they fit together.

And compared to a lot of other manga, the progress has actually been pretty good. Especially considering where we are at around 100 chapters in compared to how most are at this chapter count (with the exception of shorter stories where 100 is about how long they are, like SukiMega or Sono Bisque, I suppose). Either way, there's been gradual, constant progress, more or less, where otherwise there'd be jolts forward with 'big events' and then mostly stagnation in a new status quo as they play the usual trope jokes. Here, even things that seem like a step back set things up so further steps forward can be made later, generally, but noticing it requires paying better attention than most manga demand.

Just about everything has a purpose, and these two keep moving forward. It's part of why I fell in love with this story from the 25 episodes over two seasons of the anime. And hope that the next four volumes (after Vol12 is out, anyway) after this one get adapted into a third season eventually, too, even though I do intend to read them, since I'm already here.

Besides, it isn't just about the romance having progress; it's also about Kyo's personal growth, which is absolutely vital to his relationship status (as they say, you have to love yourself before you can love others). The sports festival arc we just resolved last chapter was a very important part of that personal growth- an event he absolutely despised previously, which became a cherished memory, I feel, this year and a significant event reinforcing his male friendship(s), let alone a hard lesson of humility for, arguably, the principal male friend, losing in so many ways despite his official 'victory'.

Part of the pay-off to this series is witnessing as Kyo learns to enjoy school, such as school events that he used to hate having to participate in before spending time with Anna regularly.

So, anime-related tangent, but, uh... I seem to recall... It was revealed to be a voice acting gig, not a live action TV drama role, right? At least in the anime, that is. I'm kinda-sorta rewatching along as I read, as I've said in prior chapter comment sections, so memory hazy on that detail, and the anime actually avoids showing that audition packet very clearly (though you can totally see it sitting under the volume they were just talking about for just a moment in a wide-angle shot before it stays tight on Anna for the rest of the scene in such a way that you never see the volume or audition packet up-close.

If it's a voice acting gig, that means there's no risk of someone else stealing her first kiss before him, but a TV drama role might put pressure on them to do it first, all the same.
