the fact that addie doesn't see her as a master can be interpreted differently.
he doesn't want to obey her because he doesn't just want to be an attendant, a servant.
in this way they can be legitimate intimate "friends" without their master-servant relationship getting in the way.

I feel like Addie knew about the game somehow even before she did and is working against her by changing the very premise of the world to prevent her from her end.

Okay, no, no, STOP.
Her being unable to actually act mean cause she's in fact nice is one thing.
But making the hot dude ride with Addie? Wtf? Stop, I'm dying 😂😂

It's quite clear now that Addie actually has no respect for Mary and is probably only following the orders of her father, not really giving a damn about Mary herself. Not that I'd majorly blame him for it, seeing how Mary isn't exactly a smart person. It must be quite annoying to be her personal attendant. At least he can do whatever he wants, and simply apologising will make Mary forget everything. Funnily enough Mary seems to be aware of it all, but doesn't do anything about it, apart from empty threats she never puts into action.

@Kaarme I do think that Addie has respect for her, only cuz he technically is straying her from having a 'bad villainess ending'-- he prob has a crush on her ngl since he blushed in like ch.2; but I do think that him not following her orders is pretty much comedic relief, orrrr maybe it'll actually have a reason in the future

@slitheryy Unless the duke himself is hopeless, I reckon Addie's orders are given by the duke and they are to make sure Mary doesn't do anything too stupid. He would be following those orders. I reckon he is, on some level, attracted to her, but I'm not sure how much he enjoys her foolishness, even if he goes along with it. He definitely has no great respect for her, though, since an order from another student goes above her orders in his mind and he doesn't exactly check his words too carefully in her company. From another point of view, if he respected her, he would be more likely to have expectations for her and try to make sure she behaves like a proper noble lady, not like a "villainess". Perhaps he consider himself a caretaker looking after a child.

@kaarme hmm I do understand what you're saying-- Addie does seem to value others above her word, but in the end of the day isn't it...technically for her benefit? like in the ball chapter Patrick said something about Addie being an overly-familiar servant, and Mary replied with something along the lines of her not caring. I do think Addie needs to fix up that whole hierarchy respect thing he's gotten in his head, but I also think the way he acts doesn't raise any red flags

@slitheryy I suppose if they have been together since forever, it's partially understandable Addie has mostly let go of any formalities if that's how his personality is (although I can't judge his personality at all). It's just too bad that makes Mary look even worse in the eyes of all the other aristocracy. She's already considered weird, but when they see her attendant, an employee, gives her very little face and acts like a friend, the other (snobby) nobles would think even less of her.
