Jin Yong's stories are set in a historical period, so they are generally more realistic. You get stabbed, you die...or at least severely injured. You don't duct-taped it and walk away with barely an inconvenience. (e.g. Guo Jing getting stabbed by Yang Kang in
Legend of the Condor Heroes)
Also, Xiaobao's dagger isn't an ordinary dagger either. It's one of Oboi's treasures.
1. The dagger is very cold to touch as seen in Chapter 27.
2. The dagger is extremely sharp, and can easily slice through steel. Novel Ch.19: 那匕首削铁如泥,剖砖自是毫不费力。
It could be made of dark/mystic/meteoric metal (玄铁), like the Dragon Saber in
Heaven Sword & Dragon Saber. Just don't expect it to shoot fireballs or lightning bolts. This isn't that kind of story...
Some stuffs from Novel Chapter 6 (Comic Chapter 29):
若不是韦小宝匕首上寒气太盛,海老公事先没觉警兆,这一下非戳中心口不可。
If Wei Xiaobao's dagger wasn't so cold and Eunuch Hai wasn't already wary, the attack would have struck his heart.
但这匕首实在太过锋锐,海老公苦练数十年的内劲,竟不能将之震飞脱手,反而无声息地切断了四根手指。
But this dagger was too sharp, despite Eunuch Hai's internal energy that he had trained for decades, he couldn't send the dagger flying from Xiaobao's hand. Instead, four of his fingers were silently sliced off.
