Now they're having daily dates teatime, so it doesn't matter either way.

If the head maid's backstory is supposed to create sympathy, it's not working. It's kinda amusing that she berates the servants for...uh...implying that the Duchess is not a stupid and insecure person anymore? ...What's the official reason again?
Anyway, Chloe is slowly winning over servants and basically already won over the knights, so this won't fly for much longer, I hope.

I think it's less her skin and more her facial structure resembling that of older women. Like, her chin or something.

So with the head maid I think where how it’s going which I hope it does it will be a mixed feelings type of thing. What I mean by that is the head maid saw past Chloe as a relaxing and cute and it made her feel more happy but as time moved forward she saw how the noble society worked and moved more for that so she then chose past Chloe as some sort of punching bag and also a way to escape from being the target. So at this time head maid still uses her as a punching bag but still had feelings of wanting to get to know each other and be friends deep down. That slap from the Chloe we have now would then signify something for the head maid. It would be a big wake up for her but also show that it’s impossible for her to become close to Chloe as she hoped back then.

One thing I love about this series is the fact that they used real knowledge and not just made up some fictional tea. I just googled it and actually all the tea mentioned in this series are legit. The one that tastes like bacon is 랍상소우총 lapsang souchong. Now I can't wait for chloe to share more of her favorite tea recipes.

You need to research tobacco as a tea ingredient.

However, Lapsang souchong is a Chinese ingredient, and it's noted for its rich aromas and flavours which include pine resin, woodsmoke, smoked paprika, hints of dried longan

Maybe she may have even been engaged at one point to the Duke and because Chloe's family had money+land for a dowry, the Duke chose her instead for his son (our current Duke.)

Lots of times lower nobility become man servants and ladys in waiting to upper nobility. I think the head maid resents the fact that the wife is from the same level of nobility as her but hit the lottery and married well while she wound up not marrying at all and becoming a servant. Also, I think that in the past she elevated herself from the bottom of the pecking order by pushing the wife into being her scapegoat. We'll find out next chapter if that speculation is correct, but I think we all know that's where this is leading. All this past history is better motive than bullying your mistress/boss lady just for hell of it.
