Old Chloe wasn’t someone able to frankly say, “I’m sorry. It was my fault.” I’m not excusing her at all because she was wrong and her maid was whipped for her lies, but all this does fit in with her characterization.

Chloe, girl, this is unforgivable. I completely understand why the staff openly disrespected her after learning this. Both sides aren’t right, but I wouldn’t waste my time on showing my disdain for her.

As for the Duke. I’d imagine that the Head Butler would relay everything to him. And that he wouldn’t care because he had no interest in Chloe to begin with. He said so himself that he doesn’t care about her personal affairs in chapter 7. He even goes as far to tell the captain not to report anything trivial about his wife to him. And I guess that depends on his definition of trivial.

As for Ms. Collins who disliked Chloe from the beginning, I hope she gets her’s. I can’t wait for Karma to get her.

@blazing_boz: That's my understanding of it at least.

Although after looking back into the chapters, this guy seem to not be a butler, but rather THE financial experts they hired to cover her screw up (ch 3).
The conversation you're thinking of is in ch 3, which is him telling her the duke won't hear about it.
So I think the point that he's hired to cover up her mistakes so that it doesn't affect the duke should remain valid.
As for him being nice to her...well, in a way she's the reason he's hired....or just him being professional and act cordial to gain her trust, this way she'd actually consult him first before trying something.

As for the lack of knowledge of Chloe's harassment. I think it's fine to consider that as various sectors of the house rarely contact each other, and when done usually through those in higher positions.
And most of the ones around Chloe's are harassing her so obviously none of them would report this (even the head maid was one of her harassers)
If we look back into the early chapters, the kitchen staffs and the knights didn't have such cold attitude towards her (except this one girl, for the reason shown here), if anything they're more...curious? and very few expressed surprise at how Chloe's changed.

Man I do appreciate this kind of story making it so that there are some genuinely valid reasons for the original person to have been so disliked other than just "mean nobles with the servants following suit". Also does a good job showing how someone can be a terrible person despite being seemingly sympathetic.

Guess there is a good reason to act like that towards her, a peer was wrongfully punished and the original is willing to sacrifice others to escape punishment, though that other noble-like maid was a bit much though (guess she contributed to the original's disposition)

@galaxymilkduds

if that does happen there better be a redemption, or at least make her non-redemptive story actually heart-wrenching enough. (although i know a lot of authors are scared to try something like that.)

this was really interesting im kinda glad that some of the dislike chloe received was pretty deserved. what she did wasn't cool. it also gives more character to the servants around the house and to the original chloe.

So, not all the hate was unjustified. I mean to escape being reprimanded, she did frame someone and got them whipped 60 times (man...that's just way harsh).

@collagen I really agree, many authors always make some reason that the Host was mistaken by others or something along those lines. I find it refreshing that we see some real consequences for why the servants dislike her. The poor kitchen maid was falsely accused in front of everyone (and the butler hinting to make her choose someone take the fall for her did not help) and whipped 60s times and had to continue working for such an unjust employer, she has every right to doubt Chloe due to the past actions. Damn, past chloe really messed up way too much, she was just not meant for those times.

I was feling sympathetic towards Old Chloe.

Not anymore. Because there's a point when, no matter how mistreated you were, it's just too much. Seriously, rather than fessing up her mistake, she preferred to blame a random maid? Who could have gotten fired, imprisoned or even klled?

This is going beyond being a coward. It's just unforgivable.

That woman deserves a raise, an apology, and reparations for the scars on her legs. I wouldn't blame her if she threw the tea in Chloe's face then burned the estate down.

Old Chloe was pathetic and is now spiritually "dead"...but it's super fucked up that white hair guy had the audacity to collaborate with her on framing the maid and THEN suggest a punishment of SIXTY lashes. Like, dude, you ain't shit. Their society is diseased. AND Current Chloe isn't shit either, since she inherited old Chloe's memories but didn't do anything to make things square with the maid. She just played around for months and spent a small fortune on teaboo trinkets before getting around to serving the kitchen maids tea. The audacity. Any decent person would be ashamed to show their face there after one of their employees got mutilated to cover for their mistakes. This chapter is painting everyone in an atrocious light. 🤮

And I get that the author probably isn't thinking that hard as they write, it's just a fun comic about tea, but the dynamics between reincarnated nobles and their servants and maids really gets me heated sometimes. 😅

One thing that really confuses me about this plot point is its not immediately clear how she lost the certificate, why its important or why a kitchen maid would be near it. Probably can be chalked up to clumsy writing though.

I do still feel bad for original chloe but there's no denying she fucked up majorly here and that maid deserves reparation, an apology, etc.

Old Chloe was so low in self-esteem and everything and that really twists a person. I can understand where she's coming from and I totally get the dilemma the kitchen maid is in rn too. I hope in the future they do get to know each other more and that transmigrated Chloe can right more wrongs.

I thought the MC has the original Chloe's memories? Why doesn't she know what old Chloe did to Jacklyn? After her flashback, that comment in the beginning when she said Jacklyn wasn't rude this time seems kinda backhanded.

The only thing I didn't want to be reencarnated in anybody life, is because I don't know where and with who they f@ up. Like they could literally have done such a horrible thing like this and I would feel ashamed. I couldn't handled it. Like others comments said I still hope for the new Chloe take this matter and settle it. I know she has to take the control over the maids and her place in that home. But girls before stating laws she should be making right her wrongs so she can be telling others out. She basically didn't bother with you because you literally tortured her over your own mistake, don't play fool, you have the other chloes memory so you should know to not play cocky over her being servicial, just say thank you and keep making the tea!!! I really hope she makes this right, because ignoring is not helpful for her either!

So is this a plot hole? How come current Chloe doesn’t remember everything? Only some things? Is it selective amnesia or whatever?
