You just know that at some point the Priestess will call "Heresy" and start a Jihad when our protag flat-out refuses to comply with her vision of "Exile" , fails to starve, and actually develops a significant and thriving territory...

And that's even without "her" territory going to pot because of her "Will of God" mismanagement.
Those fanatic-types simply can't stand anyone who doesn't agree with their views doing well, or even prospering.

Probably best to use modern technology more generally, than to restrict yourself to modern Japanese technology.

Lotta silliness 'bout religion in the comments here.
  • This story is not a Western religious tract.
  • God is fairly active in the world of this story, if only through the agency that God bestows upon people, and the Priestess is an agent of God.

Guess she'd be the future waifu after she was shown to be incompetent and also banished.

So either their "god" is absolutely incompetent, or knows what he's doing.
Or does not exist and they are just using god for their own purpose. Also possible god exist but they are using their name without their consent. Reason why they pass truth verification is either they believe it to be true or the test is rigged.

Also possible Joshua made an arrangement with god to have a slow life.

Wrong. If you're suffering it's God's trial. If something good happens it's God's blessings.
If god is putting someone through a trial, wouldn't that mean it's still god's will that they going through said trial (suffering)?
I don't understand how it could be seen any other way.

To be clear, I am not against religion, but I am against deceitful interpretation and representation.

but yeah, either that Saintess chick has zero reference or has forgotten what it means to live in "lumpy dust pile for a bed" poverty,
or is willfully malevolent.

Story time skips with little to no information as to what/why/how. Will probably be an annoying writer and do it later as a flashback instead. Already beating a dead horse with isekai, religion, and the whole wanting to be lazy shtick.

I wonder why Joshua was exiled? Perhaps he was exiled the same reason Joseph was? To get to the right place, right time to help overcome a famine and to guide people away from conflict?
The prologue said he had announced intentions to reign but not rule, meaning lap in all the riches without doing anything productive.
The nuns reaction was to exile him in accordance to some oracle that had been verified to be true, about how lords that don't actually rule their territories should be exiled.

Honestly, feels rather reasonable. And ppl are saying it is a mistake that will hurt her religion/her (prolly cause of exile trope), but it's not like it would have made any difference if she didn't exile him, as he still wouldn't have done any ruling and let things ruin.

Seems like Joshua is using the Oracle's words to his advantage. Despite the usual tropes, I don't think it's as black and white as MC good, religion bad here, even with how sinister things seem. Want to hear the full story first.

I find it interesting that the God is never named nor what their domain is. As of now my head cannon is it's the God of poverty and suffering.

So either their "god" is absolutely incompetent, or knows what he's doing.
I mean to be fair.... a land that was originally considered uninhabitable is now going to be habitable and used by countless people.....

And our lazy MC would never have been willing to do such work otherwise....

And no matter how you look at it the god‘s plan actually perfectly matched with the MC‘s plan....

And we as viewers should know that MC was brought here from another world by the god.

So basically, it’s a win-win situation for the diety.... either the MC gets his slow life like he wished, or that uninhabitable land gets fixed up and benefits the world....

So that’s actually a pretty smart god...

LOL the saintess is a stupid asshole.
Let's admit that god is benevolent, and that it actually had a long acting plan and a good reason for for the oracle. Either it want to rule directly sending oracles to the saintess, otherwise even a theocracy need to be managed. In case her blind ideology go way further then what her god probably intended.
Also a benevolent god may be represented by a not so benevolent church, depending on how and how much they can interact with their priests and how they can communicate an oracle, as if god cannot communicate often and clearly (but need to rely on metaphors, figurative speech and so on) the church can develop a doctrine on it's own. For example the saintess speech where she say the dukes wield political power as a form of god's assigned privilege, and should wield it directly and absolutly (absolute monarchy) while Rudell's "reign without rule" may indicate he was working, or wanted to work, on a costitutional monarchy with elective system (like UK or Japan itself).

Also we don't know wethever the oracle god, the skill maker god and the god who reincarnated him are the same god.

However Rudell, as a reincarnated person, should know the risk of letting a religious take material hold of a state, yet he choose to comply. A shit move if he actually cared about his people. With the amount of support he is shown to have, there was a lot other ways he could have acted. Even with the idea of slow life, it was the worst choice to take.
