Well, IF he's a sniper with a scam business model, saying "Ah well, we got a little, but not enough." is more likely to result in more revenue. "See he did release some, so he's not lying. He just legit needs more money."

If he's not scam sniper, then he needs to defend himself against the accusations.

First kill: 4349 exp. Second kill 2478 exp. ?? Maybe a typo in one of those numbers. (E.g. 2178 would be about half of 4349.) Or maybe there's a slight level diff between the two (e.g. one is level 67 and the other is level 66.)

I'm not understanding the exp split. Seems like the first was split between two people. Possibly it's split between those who engage or are engaged by it. So the first gets split between Elma and Maybell (since it aggroed on her first), while second is split between all four.

BTW, lets not forget that Luce's ability doesn't only affect loots, but also spawns. So it seems more likely that the double spawn is due to Luce rather than the "monster pool". GG Luce (Party Killer)!

Author dishes out good characterization of both Maybell and Celt (shameless, but a (total) asshole). Hilarious that Celt belatedly understands her personality.

I think only hits count for exp? First kill was all his, second kill he noticed the hunter was still alive because of the exp he got when he killed it.

Second kill was explicitly split 4 ways. So if Elma got sole credit for the first kill, then he should have gotten 9 to 10k exp. Instead he got about half of that. No one other than Elma got a hit on first mob. So who got the other half?

The only other person interacting in any way with first mob was Maybel who the mob aggroed on. She didn't cast a heal on Elma during his fight, so she didn't even have an support action. ... Unless there's some weird rule like "Healers in party always count as 'participating' even if they don't actually heal."

he became slightly useful for small second. although he never would have needed to jump in to save her had she not been exhausted from stalling the monster for his recovery, so yeah it all balances out just barely. he was completely useless for this fight and a detriment the whole time.

One thing to keep in mind is that everyone's behavior is somewhat dictated by their classes. And this is largely responsible for Celt's behavior. Elma explains this in the web novel version of this chapter: https://firebirdsnest.org/heavy-knight/v2-ch42/

Though I'll note that the explanation depends on the idiotic "kill shot wins the loot" rule.

You'd think so, but in rpgs usually if it's solo you get full xp but if it's a full party everyone gets half xp instead so it's pretty close.
