Wow, how boring. First of all, she can't drink like that because it's literally illegal, and there's no legal loophole. The establishment will be penalised like that for allowing minors to drink. Second, no hot wholesome sex. It is a waste of a series, 6 chapters and still no development with the main guy, main girl seems to keep moving forward until all her customers are pleased. I had imagined this would be something like, a former-soaplander meets rich business man guy, wholesome sex, start! But no, this shit is awful. There is no wholesome, translation sucks and main girl is awful. Not recommended.

Dude I’ve been reading your comments and you literally have nothing positive to say about this manga, regardless you’re mad because you thought it would be wholesome hentai at first but instead you got hit with an actual story that shows the life of working as a prostitute. Of course the manga is going over her background, it’s not a one-shot so you are going to get some background on the characters. Also, it seems after reading 6 chapters you still seem to think that the guy is the main character of the story, well he’s not so you’re not going to see any development from him until later. I‘m also getting the feeling that you have a problem with the main character being a prostitute. Dude. Get over yourself. No one gives a shit if you look down on this girl because she sells sex and you think she’s a whore for not having proper morals. She’s a teen girl who ran away from home. She most likely dropped out of high school, and because in Japan you can’t rent without parents permission, or a guarantor, she would most definitely be homeless. Also, not a lot of jobs would hire runaway minors with no parent permission, especially in Japan‘s rigid society, so that doesn’t leave her with very many options. If you‘re mad because you’re only seeing the main character have sex as a prostitute, and not love-dovey sex as a loyal wife with her husband, then stop reading it instead of shitting on it and the translation for no reason.

The person Honoka will eventually marry is not introduced until very late into the story. He's not a major character at all and many of the prostitutes and clients that Honoka becomes acquainted with are far more important to the story.

If you're looking for a romance story then this isn't it. This is a coming of age story that details 7 years into live of the protagonist and the hardships he faces, not a romance story. The primary story is not about romance but about succeeding in the world of prostitution and life in general.

Also, it seems after reading 6 chapters you still seem to think that the guy is the main character of the story
It's always so bizarre to see how many people think that in titles with a female protagonist and a male love interest that the male love interest is the protagonist, they surprisingly often refer to him as the main character when he clearly is not.

Or the other thing is when people use the term “male lead” for the main love interest of the female protagonist, even when he not be the most important male character in the story. In a harem title I translate many of the comments seem to use the term “male lead” simply to mean “whichever one of the harem members will win in the end”.

Wow, for the entirety of the paragraph you called me mad how many times, I've lost count. But then you proceeded to write this entire paragraph where you put words in my mouth and let me guess, I'm the triggered one here?

First of all, you can rent property in Japan from the age of 18. Student housing complexes also exist. I also don't give a shit she dropped out of high school, maybe should've delayed her runaway plans for after when she graduated. What could've been done, what couldn't have been done, that's a whole different book of arguments that I'm not going to get into. I have no problem with her being a prostitute, it's more like why she became a prostitute. And the synopsis doesn't do a good job of telling you what to expect.

"b-but it's not a love story!!1!! it is a sad life story of a sad girl" My brother in Christ, the synopsis literally says "A unique cinderella story starts now!". If I write a story about gay rape sex and put in the synopsis "A heartwarming romance story starts now!" would it be the reader's fault for misunderstanding what the story is about? Oh no but it is my fault for not knowing a Cinderella story would mean that the guy we literally see on the first page is not a main character.

"No one gives a shit about this and that. Do you know how much I don't give a shit about this? Let me write this 45-page theoretical essay real quick on how much I don't give a shit! It will truly express my willingness to not give a shit"

Get a grip on yourself. You're the one here malding. And yes, the synopsis is misleading, my opinion is objectively correct. Nowhere is it my fault. I am right, you are wrong. Just accept it and stop crying already.
Also yes, the translation is bad.

Oh the story is not about romance? My bad. I thought that the romance tag on this manga would have something to do with the "Cinderella story" in the synopsis. I should've totally expected a life drama tragedy story. Gosh darn it!

Anyway, I don't really care about what this is supposed to be you know? Here is my unique Cinderella story: Me saw cover art. Me found it cute. Me read the synopsis. Me look at the tags. Me see romance. Me see Erotica. "Hehehe sexo". Me see Sexual Violence. "Hmm, must be FMC's flashbacks from her prostitution days". Me face when it is not a wholesome romance manga but instead a shittier inferior JK Haru with worse art:

You are aware that Cinderella spent the first half of the story in the dregs before meeting the prince right? The prince only appears in the second half of the story.

I think you might not know what a “Cinderella story” is; it's a story about someone who starts at the lowest and ends at the highest, which is exactly what this story is.

There are many other characters on the first page who haven't appeared yet either, but you don't seem to care as much about them as you do about the spouse for whatever reason.

Get a grip on yourself. You're the one here malding. And yes, the synopsis is misleading, my opinion is objectively correct. Nowhere is it my fault. I am right, you are wrong. Just accept it and stop crying already.
The synopsis is completely accurate and tells no lies. You simply have a wrong idea of what the term “Cinderella story” means.

From TheFreeDictionary:

A situation or narrative in which a person, team, company, etc., starts from a very lowly or impoverished position and ends up achieving the highest degree of success.

https://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/Cinderella+story

It has nothing to do about male characters being important or introduced early.

Oh the story is not about romance? My bad. I thought that the romance tag on this manga would have something to do with the "Cinderella story" in the synopsis. I should've totally expected a life drama tragedy story. Gosh darn it!
romance occurs in it, thus it's tagged as romance. It's not the centre of it; it's tagged many other things as well such as “drama” and “sexual violence”.

Anyway, I don't really care about what this is supposed to be you know? Here is my unique Cinderella story: Me saw cover art. Me found it cute. Me read the synopsis. Me look at the tags. Sounds about like what we guessed. You saw a naked chick on the cover and made up your mind about what it would be before reading it even though nothing in the synopsis lies and you seem to not know what “Cinderella story” means and instead of simply putting it away when you found out it wasn't what you assumed it was, you're complaining that it isn't what you want it to be when it never claimed or suggested it.

Everything about the synopsis is true so long as one know what a “Cinderella story” is.

It certainly never claimed to be holesome either with the “drama” and “sexual violence” tags as well as the synopsis which talks about how the protagonist has a past of domestic violence and rape.

Eh, I didn't really think Cinderella story itself would have a whole other meaning. I tied it with the romance tag (which shouldn't be there if romance isn't the main focus of the story because it's just misleading). On the other hand, sexual violence is a sensitive topic so even if there is one scene with sexual violence in it, the title is required to have the tag applied, at least that's how it has been so far. And I've already explained that the sexual violence part could've been a flashback of FMC. If the story becomes a romance 500 chapters later then clearly that tag doesn't belong there. Hot chicks have nothing to do with anything. I just thought the art style was cute. And of course, I care more about the male lead than the other characters, it is because I expected a romance story. Also the "rich man" is literally in the title. Why are you acting like this is such an outlandish mishap? Why am having to break down each one of my sentences for you to understand?

Also, story not being what you expected has always been a valid reason to show criticism. Hello? Are you new to internet people giving opinions? So yeah, I didn't know that Cinderella story in itself meant something different, the romance tag probably shouldn't be there, blah blah blah. Well gang, we solved another mystery today! So are we going to continue reading or am I going to have to do a cage match with another 5 different people?

An opinion is a belief you have of something, there is no right or wrong opinion, and if it’s based on whether or not you found the synopsis misleading then it’s not objective. “Nowhere is it my fault. I am right, you are wrong. Just accept it and stop crying already.” is something said by someone who is malding. A Cinderella story is literally a life drama tragedy romance story (it does usually have a happy ending so not really a tragedy), of course it’s gonna start with the main character being in the dumps of life and not with the nice wholesome sex with her husband. And you keep saying that the translation is bad, while offering no explantation let alone any constructive criticism, leading me to believe that you’re shitting on the translator for no reason other that you’re mad because the manga isn’t what you expected it to be

Why do you care more about the male lead than the other characters in a romance story? Just because it’s a romance story doesn’t mean that it‘s going to be centered on the guy, romance goes both ways. You also keep demeaning and insulting me and the other guy who replied to you. Are you really that angry about us replying to you? Because to me it seems like you are acting like we’re the biggest idiots in the world for not catering to your opinions

Wow...there are no words in existence to perfectly describe how fucking stupid you sound right now.

You sure did pick an accurate pfp though. That's the look of someone angrily making uninformed and misguided opinions and commenting them.

Look man if you don't like this fine. You've made that clear. But do us all a favor and quit commenting on this manga if you're gonna repeat all your delusional bs.

I don't what this guy's deal is either. And honestly his opinions (or really anything that comes from him) are invalid because they're formed from sheer ignorance. He didn't even understand the concept of a Cinderella story, and when someone graciously explained to him he dismisses it like some petulant manchild.

You just argued that Cinderella itself, one of the most iconic romance stories of all time should not be called a romance story because as in this story, Cinderella only meets the love interest for the first time half way through the story.

In any case, that's assuredly not how Mangadex tags work, or how most of the tags can work anyway.

You assume that the person the protagonist will marry is the latter's only love interest in the entire story. As the start of the story indicates, this story spans 7 years. It's entirely possible the protagonist goes through multiple love interests, before eventually marrying this one at the end.

Also the "rich man" is literally in the title.
No, the title says that a prostitute becomes a rich wife; it says nothing about whether the person this prostitute will marry is male and rich.
Why are you acting like this is such an outlandish mishap? Why am having to break down each one of my sentences for you to understand?
It isn't an outlandish mishap and I never claimed it was. People have expectations about stories all the time that turn out false.

My problem is not that you thought it was something it wasn't, but that you angrily blame it on the synopsis, the tags, and the story while it made no attempt to deceive you and everything about it claims about itself is truthful. Of course people still have their expectations and hopes about a story and not everything becomes what people want to be but there was no attempt at deception here. — It simply isn't what you expected it to be.

No, it's quite silly to angrily blame a story for not being what you wanted it to be when it never claimed it would be.

It's of course entirely different in say Passengers, where the marketing campaign was purposefully deceptive and arose the wrong impression, but nothing of the sort happened here and you seem to be the only one that read that synopsis and drew the conclusion that it would full of holesome sex from the start.

No one would be as annoyed with you as they are if you had simply said something along the lines of. “Well... I was expecting something more romantic from the start I guess but it seems this is more about the prostitution world than actual romance, not for me I guess.”, but you didn't say that and act as though the story itself tried to deceive you.

I don't what this guy's deal is either. And honestly his opinions (or really anything that comes from him) are invalid because they're formed from sheer ignorance. He didn't even understand the concept of a Cinderella story, and when someone graciously explained to him he dismisses it like some petulant manchild.
Let's be honest that we know the deal. That user is most likely a male who was looking for romantic wish fulfillment and a male-character to self-insert into, not realizing that this is a female-target story and the wish fulfillment is indeed a “Cinderella” story, starting at the lowest and rising to the highest through hard work and that finding love is only a small part of it. — The biggest part is financial and social success as well as feeling valuable and wanted.

It's a story about a runaway who finds success in making people happy through hard work first and foremost.

My personal problem with this manga isn't about the fact this is a romance or not, and how the story is announced.

This is clearly a manga treating about prostitution in Japan.
My problem is that it's treated very naively et caricaturally.
  • The main character is a young girl having sex with anybody paying her without any repulsion. It's almost like she's enjoying it. How many prostitutes sell their body with such pleasure ? Most of them are coerced into it, and just do it cause they have no choice, but without any joy.
  • All her customers are very nice guys, even the most difficult one that nobody wanted is just a shy and simple guy who wanted to be mothered. Like hell all customers are like that, there are a lot of perverts ready to abuse the prostitutes, especially in such a shady environnement (the 1st soap) where the manager clearly showed he won't do anything to defend his girls.
  • Her "friend" was just a bitch who became jealous of her. And of course everything went wront for her, total opposite from the protagonist.
  • The others girls are all mean and treating her like shit. The highest ranked one being the worst of all.
There was several way to develop such a story :
  • The serious one, showing what is prostitution, in a realistic way, with deep characters and plot
  • The sexy one, mostly focusing on sex, not really caring about the story
  • The funny one, using the plot as a comedy with funny chars
But this manga is nothing of that
It's not serious, the plot and chars are too irrealistic for that
It's not sexy, there are sex scenes but they are blanks
It's not funny either.
It's not the worst manga, but it's mostly boring

In the end, my main concern is that I feel that the mangaka wanted to draw a serious story, but isn't good enough for that. And finally is brushing the true face of prostitution where girls are not happy like the protagonist.

Where do you base this on? You are aware this story is semi-autobiographical written by a former prostitute who became a rich wife aren't you?

For instance:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-03-12/u-k-sex-workers-report-high-job-satisfaction

I actually know a fair number of persons who are or have been prostitutes and I have to say, the comment sections of this title opened my eyes to the fact that many persons seem to share your notion, often with strong conviction, and nothing to back it up.

And, frankness be, if anything many of them seem to display anger at the notion that some, to seemingly the majority of prostitutes enjoy their line of work, and find the idea offensive. They don't want it to be true and rather have they suffer than enjoy it.

the translator is so british its distracting lmao. I have never seen a manga translation have "innit" let alone so many times
far too late now, but this translator inserts their own unique speaking habits too much into every single line, so it looks like all these women from all different backgrounds use the same slang. Momoka and the Lily princesses etc shouldn't have the same vernacular, especially when they're making fun of her for being low class

I'm simply translating how they speak. You'll note that say Sayuri and Yuko never use any particularly informal expressions because they don't speak that way in the original lines, nor does say An. Of all the major characters:

  • Honoka speaks fairly formally and mostly avoids informal contractions that aren't permissible in formal writing such as “-zyan” which I tend to translate as “innit”.
  • Reika speaks very informally.
  • The owner of Petit Moon speaks highly informal and coarse.
  • Momoka speaks slighly less informal than Reika but still fairly informal.
  • Kanzaki speaks not only highly formal, but highly polite. Constantly using respectful terms even with his subordinates.
  • The owner or Raphael speaks in somewhat stereotypical old country dialect but it's not as extreme as it's portrayed in some fiction.
  • Kakeru's language is fairly rough and informal too though not as bad as the owner of Petit Moon.

You say that Momoka shouldn't speak more informally than Honoka, but that's how the character speaks in the original lines. Honoka actually speaks in far more formal and polite language than most of the other prostitutes when they're off the clock anyway. When they receive guests all of them switch to very stereotypical customer-service oriented Japanese using highly polite and respectful terms to address their customers that Kanzaki uses all the time, even to address his own employees.

I'll believe you on that point because i haven't read the raws, but why "innit"?
It's so specific to British slang in particular, tbh it's so random its comedic lol
I burst out laughing several times bc of the random innits hahahaha

Btw I'm an australian, we use british english and have a lot of similar slang so its not like I'm a confused american or anything
