You know, now that I think about it isn't it really realistic that some guy doesn't comprehend they're being flirted with? Aside from the fact that anime and manga flirting are super obvious, in real life a lot of guys are very prone to just writing off someone flirting with them as just that person being nice. This is especially true of boys and men with low self esteem, which the main character is probably severely lacking in.

I still think it's bad writing someone being this dense in such a cliche'd way, but I can maybe let it slide a little bit if I keep this shit in mind.

This manga about the personification of a black hole is pretty interesting.

Dunno guys, if I was in the position of the MC I would've done the same thing. While rare there are peoples IRL who really feel like that (dismissing hints as familiarity, low self-esteem and on extreme cases mild self-loathing). Realistic if it was me, unrealistic if it was him. Perhaps. Again, I do not know, I am not sure. Would've been more realistic if he had ever fallen for someone "being nice", went ahead and friendzoned (roughly like me). So it will be a mild trauma. Just add the backstory above and story'll feel better, really.

@OnionKnightRises That (my post above) is basically what happened to me for comparison, aside the mentioned fact that RL flirting aren't that obvious. Still, needs a backstory in my opinion, if the author insists on this attitude of his.

And if I was in the MC's position I might've been thinking the girl is merely lonely and lacks friend, so she clings on what she had. Still again, this might due to a minor trauma not something like...don't know.

Sorry if I rant too much.

Well, having a low self esteem is one thing. But, IMO, boys are a simple thing: just by getting talk by girls or any other contact make the boys think that the girl probably like him. Source: Hachiman. But, this man isn't having a tiny weeny little bit of that imagination. Idk, feels like a character that isn't "human" for me.

@combination098 yeah missing flirting isn't unrealistic, it's just the way they flirt that makes this very weird. The way the main girl flirts is the exact same way almost every girl in anime and manga flirt, so if a girl acted like this it'd be INSANELY obvious they were flirting. If she was doing something more subdued like maintaining eye contact more often or something like making physical contact with the MC a lot, then I could understand.

So if she just flirted in a more believable manner, this wouldn't feel as unrealistic as it is.

@Twia I would have agreed with you, if they weren't childhood friends. Aside from the main girl's cliche'd flirting, it'd actually be perfectly understandable for the MC to think she just wants to be friends since they used to be friends, even younger boys don't just think that a girl talking to them automatically means it's about love.

@OnionKnightRises @Twia I still have hope for the series since I also have the pretty same mindset as the MC. However, my mindset is influenced by the minor trauma mentioned earlier, the knowledge that boys are often misunderstanding things, and other factors which are nonexistent in the series. I mean come on, it'd be realistic if they add a backstory or such, believe me.

IMO if the MC briefly thought the girl is hitting him and then quickly dismiss the thought it would be quite better.

Earlier chaps might showed him having these but he quickly dismissed them. Or so I see.

This is beyond missing signals or the mindset that they are just friends or some bullshit. The kid knows & is in denial about it.

There's a limit on how dense and plain you can be, this author doesn't know that. Reading this manga is like watching some terror movies where the characters only does the stupiest decisions that no one does.

Tbh i would get annoyed too. “Come quick we really need you!” Cheer on your friend.
It's like the Rick and Morty meme

Mc:What is my purpose?
Girl A: You cheer on Fushumi
Mc: Oh my god

Unless I'm misrembering, a part that people seem to forget is MC getting annoyed at other boys pushing their feelings on the FMC when they were younger and assuming she felt the same way. So take his low self-esteem already and add the doubt of "what if I'm just pushing my feelings onto her and not realizing that's just me", and you get the dense MC

I wonder how long the author is going to prolong his denseness, 30 or so chapters? Currently, he's at maximum density.

Fuck this guy and fuck the childhood friend too. How on earth are you suppose to like this girl, she is so flawless that is impossible to actually relate to her. Not only that, but she is so pushy to the point where is actually annoying. So you ignore him for so much time just because he once offhandedly said he was into gyrus??? And now, after he showed some basic human decency and helped you on the train you are like, well time to go back to how things to be in the past and get myself all over him and tell him that I love him after ignoring him for years. So what, you couldn't have done this any other moment in the past more gradually, getting molested and have him helped you was the sing that you needed to get back on track?? Does that mean that otherwise you would have continue ignoring him forever?? Like of course he is going to be on the fence about your advance if you come so suddenly after not talking or showing interest on him after what seem like years and all of a sudden you are all over them, man I really don't blame him, I'd be suspicious too. And I get it, this is some escapist fantasy of being a loner and still being adore by the most perfect and beautiful girl in school, I get who this manga is for. But, why would you introduce a girl as good as Torigoe just to have here suffer. Like what is the point in that??? The author is doing this character so dirty and makes the childhood friend more dis-likeable. I mean she is soooo perfect she is good and everything and now she is even gonna get the guy she likes after ignoring him for years??? Meanwhile our girl here spent all that time being his friend and keeping him company and now she is gonna lose so easily to the school idol that has it everything. Fells sad

Can light novel readers tell me how much longer until MC finally un-densifies and realizes the obvious?
