I feel like a dumbass this whole chapter ;-;; why did she start blasting the place and why did it get so full in the diner? Was it implied that they were all gamblers? cuz the way connie reacted made it seem worse somehow, like a bunch of human trafficers.

They went there to seek out evidence that would incriminate one of the masterminds behind the current issues plaguing the country. While the storekeeper was retrieving the evidence for them, the number of people in the otherwise rundown bar increased tremendously.

The implication is that they or the store were under surveillance from the beginning and those men gathered to intercept the evidence by force before it could be used in formal legal proceedings. Kimberly handed the ledger to Connie under the table and sent her off to safety before attracting the full attention of the attackers to herself.
