Oh you cheeky brats! you are trying to inject some high quality lore into the warhammer 40k universe! Noted, when this bullshit with female Custodes blows over or gets accepted. i will pass this along to the fandom.

You have, despite being daring plagiarists, out done CS Gotto, the insane motorcycle midget, who's work is canon yet trash.

As a Blood Ravens player, I'd understand you if I wouldn't have ignored C. S. Goto's novels a LOOOONG time ago. Also, female custodians are fine, just the usual grognards being grognards and some assholes of YT jumping into de bandwagon for agendas and profit. I've seen worse and probably so do you (Primaris, End Times, Erda and more).

As for this... It's an isekai so trashy by default. I'm actually curious of how GW itself would take on this. Very, VERY curious...

No one cares about female custodes. No one who collects the army cares. these were the same dweebs that spazzed about the sisters of battle, and when those came back they didn't buy or collect the army. If those people cared at all about that stuff they would be playing battletech, at least oldtech and not the stupid click base crap, or they would play void or play infiniti.

Furthermore, there is ALWAYS retcons, there will ALWAYS be retcons, and the way the mythology is built those retcons feed into the dystopian ignorance of the 41s millennium. Space marines used to be dumber than orks, Squats were eaten by tyranids then they were not. Everything you were told about the inquisition was a lie, that was the tag line for the inquisitor "mini" game of 20 years ago.

The truth of the matter, is that this is a hobby for weirdos. What keeps people out isn't something as crazy is misogyny or bigotry, it's the fact that: it's expensive, it takes time, it takes space, and it takes skill. There isn't a gate keeping people out, it's a 9foot wall on all sides, and if you make the mistake of climbing in you are going to be stuck for a while. It's NOT for the faint of heart, because even the best mini you paint, is going to be outdone by someone else's. This appeals to some people, because not only is it a dystopian sci fi world that spits in the face of startrek and star wars, but it encourages you to improve real world skills.

That last concept, is lost on the lumpenproles.

I found that a little sad, actually. GW spent A LOT of money bringing the girls in plastic and turns out they didn't respond with their wallets. I have 2 armies now and I've decided my 3rd will be them because of that (and because their range is awesome AF), probably next year.

Or they wouldn't have let Confrontation die like that...

The bottom reason: how much GW can earn with X faction? If they have good projections, they're released and the lore is adapted accordingly. For example, they saw Necrons would be more profitable if they had more character than "mindless robos enslaved to star gods", hence Newcrons in 5th Ed. And it worked.

But now it's going mainstream! ...sort of. It's still expensive, but it's not like they didn't realised that and given options to make it more economical (Combat Patrol/Spearhead, Hachette's collectibles, Kill Team/Warcry/Underworlds). I think the more expensive variant as it was it's more centered now on the Horus Heresy/The Old World lines.

I half-disagree. You can take the slow path and learn and improve at your own pace, admitting there are a lot of people better than you in all hobby aspects and not letting it get to you (it's what I do. Having a professional painter who's the nicest girl in kilometers did wonders). If you want to compete, compare yourself and improve, you can; but it's not mandatory and you can have a chill hobby if you want.

But there are many people who don't get that or the hobby in general, and they're the ones who's most territorial. Tourist? Gimme a break, newbie. Would have loved to see you in 2nd/3rd edition, if you were even born then...

I started in 3rd edition, and the people i played with got into the hobby because they built scale space ships, the space marines back then were the correct size. We were very far and few between back then.

I had forgotten about the slow path, perhaps i have grown too old and bitter, that i have forgotten the joy of watching self improvement manifest, of getting the paint right, of seeing the difference between primed and unprimed, painting on the sprue, frocking; the joy of improvement. I never did professional painting, it felt wrong to me, fake. This isn't magic where you buy cards and get playing, this takes work and set up.

I forgot that! That's the other thing no one says, that you will have hundreds of dollars of minis that you have yet to paint.

The hobby will be fine at the end of the day, as it's too brutal and obscure to be fully mainstream, unless hollywood has a full revolution and decides to make interesting stories instead of corpo money grabs or propaganda.
