Thanks for the chapter!
Anyone know if that stool pigeon was coughing up blood, shadow or something else? If shadow how was it done? Even if engagements and marriages were done around fifteen years old, seems odd for Eli to have enspelled him with a death curse if he talked even if she was perfectly ok sacrificing Leslie. After all, the Sperado family was in decline because it'd been a hundred years since last Shadow user appeared until Eli was able to coat her hand with shadow. Then again, maybe another noble or individual with atypical magic is involved who hates or fears the Duchess, but not the Sperados. Speaking of Eli, anyone know what she can do with her powers other than coat her hand?
@stal2walk Agree that Leslie's knowledge along with most of her power would've been transferred to Eli when sacrificed. Just guessing but only explanation for the Spartan training in academics at a level higher than most students in the academy study. Otherwise would've just locked Leslie in a windowless room/cell in the basement, no talking with anybody, and only provided with food, water, and an occasional chamber pot cleaning to keep interaction as minimal as possible since planned to sacrifice her even before conceiving her. Although details are really sketchy about the sacrificial ritual. Such as whether there is anything special about the sacrificial fire at that place (other than burning up the body to save hassle while sacrificing the victim,) whether the location or building requires certain characteristics, and how determine best time to do sacrifice. After all, during first chapter the Marquis felt Leslie needed to be put in the fire before sunrise and that the ideal time would roughly be six months after Leslie fell in the river.
@xcinsationalx Because they're a noble family with long lineage and had powerful Shadow magic users. Although they've been declining because it's been at least a hundred or so years before Eli since a Shadow magic user was born. Also, royal family has been overlooking a few things so could have a loyal Shadow user on command and make Sperado family feel obliged to them. Remember Leslie learned that not only were many children sacrificed while examining family tree archives but deduced that royal family definitely knew about it considering all the blatant signs such as only having two days for a sacrifice's funeral while commoners have three days and noble families usually take a week. That and how a Shadow User would soon 'blossom' into their power soon after their siblings death.
