This manga is really good. Don't really understand the low rating, probably gachashitters who got butthurt or people who don't know what the manga is parodying.
Apparently, this is a parody of those mobile games where you gamble your hard-earned money for a ridiculously small chance to see a hot pic of a cartoon chick. It's funny enough and there's some saucy art that's rather well done... Good enough for me!
Don't get me wrong this is stupid comedy at best but i still find it really funny, and the story isnt just accepting the status quo these recent chapters do hint at some development which is surprising.
But don't read it if you are not prepared to deal with some pretty dry and stupid humor.
Hidamarisou! This is a charming series and I thank you for your hard work!
I enjoy it. If only because of my experience with gatcha games. I think it might be rather dry for someone who doesn't enjoy the genre. I wish there was an emerging arc where the main characters went out again but damn are they just trapped in purgatory forever, huh.
NGL the early part of the manga is really a drag(I really thought the manga had 30 chp), it's probably just me since I don't do a lot of gacha(I only does Skin cases in CS) since most of the comedy come from associating the "comedy" of the manga with the gacha system in RPG games (it's not really a joke in itself IMO). Although after a certain point this manga got decent by introducing conflict, character backstory/motivation and all that good stuff.
Wait wait wait hold the fuking phone who the heck put Adventure tag to this manga?
I think it might be rather dry for someone who doesn't enjoy the genre.
100% this. I don't play gacha games because they aren't real games; they are literal slot machines with anime skins, which is even worse than normal casinos. I would more say "very dry" and not just "rather dry", though. Read up to the werewolf girl Shibachi and so far have been incredibly disappointed by the attempt at humor. This isn't a "dark comedy" that this is portraying to be. This isn't anywhere near close to "dark", either. I mean, yeah, Urus' past, along with portraying heroes as suicidal when things don't go their way can see "dark" to some, but there is no consequence to their action, so there is literally no impact. The little "joke" at the end of that chapter 3 is not funny: it's just sad, and shows the addictive nature of these games.
Rant:
I just don't understand how people are stupid enough to get caught up in this in the long term. Not even Granblue Fantasy with its story could suck me in because I hated the gacha mechanics of it so bad. Which is a fucking shame because the story and concept is pretty awesome, and the art and character designs are god tier good. (I'm still holding out hope for that Granblue Fantasy: Relink game, though it's been literal years since it was announced, so I don't have any faith it'll ever come to fruition, even if they've claimed it's "still in development.") /rant
With that said, I'm gonna stick with this for a while because usually manga that starts out interesting and then the first chapter ends with a really shit premise like this can tend to take a turn for the more serious if the author is actually competent, which I really hope this does, as I do like Urus' character motivation and his grimdark personality. The Drama tag did catch my attention and I wanna see if they will actually pull through. Though, as it's a Shounen, I won't expect much of anything unless it starts ramping up like the more interesting Shounen that balances humor and drama rather well like Shokugeki no Souma, Shijou Saikou no Deshi Kenichi, and the like. Hopefully the jokes later on actually get good and are actually funny.
Exhilarating, this manga has possibly the most entertaining premise I've come across, and that says a lot.
It’s a splendid read that provides the perfect blend of both comedy and storyline. Where it has no dark storyline or tragedy, just pure comedy (if you ignore the MCs cliche backstory, that was introduced for comedic effect).
You probably would dislike this manga if you expected something serious from a comedy manga like a serious plot line and story, as it’s more of a slice of life comedy manga about a cool guy training hard so that he would be picked as an companion by hero’s who choose companions Gacha style, where the MC is always dismissed/sold/ignored by hero’s who roll him as he is an R (rare) in terms of power level (which is considered the weakest) hence why he wants to train to become stronger so that he can surpass his R label so that he would get picked.
Which brings us to what this masterpiece of a story premise is about, a comedy about an MC trying to get picked by hero’s as a companion hanging out with other adventurers that are never picked as well.
The MC of the manga is an hardworking man that is trying to improve himself through sheer willpower and perseverance fuelled by both the determination to overcome his fate of being forever labelled as an R, and his lust for revenge from his goblin demon slayer backstory, even when hopeless scenarios are presented
such as when he gets rejected and sold by hero’s hundreds of time, insulted, looked down upon, and even when a stronger clone of him is created (which stole both his sister and his hard effort)
he still doesn’t give up and continues to train himself with full motivation so that he can be treated the same as adventures that are labelled SSR (he kinda reminds me of rock lee).
This manga provides a refreshing feeling as the MC is weak and remains so no matter how much he trains whilst also providing a feeling of relaxation as your expectations aren’t instantly betrayed by the MC becoming superman after a chapter or two through something dumb like entering a special dungeon, eating a magic fruit, and etcetera. As the best part of this manga is about how much effort the MC does to get picked but usually fails because he’s weak.
TL;DR: This is a nice fun and enjoyable comedy about an hardworking mc (who tries hard to get chosen by hero’s) hanging out with his friends who are never picked by hero’s as well. With a soothe relaxing no drama storyline.
I genuinely recommend this manga (if you enjoy this type of comedy (an MC that tries hard but always fails).
Though this manga does have a fan service NTR chapter where the guild master steals some random hero from their wife, but I hope that wouldn’t deter you from reading this as it was necessary in providing information on the personality and backstory of the guild masters whilst also information on how strong people are gathered.
