I think they were actually dying, but a significant point of this story is that Tanya is a literal deus ex machina, or at least her special orb is, so it healed them.
Only Mary Sue can truly stand up to Tanya in this regard.

The wait was long, but this is just so AWESOME it is worth it! The action, the art, the hype, the characters, everything, it's incredible! The way Tanya exchanged insultes with Colonel Drake while fighting was my favourite part.
I guess my only complaint would be that Tanya's unit is too strong. Even after all this they didn't lose a single soldier. While I do love all of those guys, this was a perfect moment to kill of 2 or 3 of less important ones to show them their aren't invincible and to maintain some realism.
