There are some minor continuity things (iirc I think the volunteer force ride brooms in the anime movie not the car-like devices here ect.) Overall I would say it's all one timeline at this point.
The view point of the LN is just more narrow and with all of Tanya's tangents one could perhaps see it as her writings of the events. Here in the manga we're getting these flash forwards to journalists and historians, so one could say this is their documentary account maybe. This idea kind of breaks down with the inclusion of all the Being X sections with whole pantheons though...

I think it works in some ways. Tanya is always reducing soldiers down to "human capital" so it is fitting that there is a drastically smaller cast in the LN. I'm not saying it's canon but I think it's an apt way to to describe the differences between adaptions.

I see, thanks for the clarification! This isn't the first time I've encountered conceptual differences between versions of this or that stories due to various nuances, so I'm always interested in discussing how this works in a given title.

Yes, Zen was never subtle about Tanya fighting for, to put it mildly, not the best side, but I had already gotten used to all this Reich satire.

Second of all, this whole war might have inspirations from WW2 (more than we like to think of) but as a whole, it is based on WW1 European theater (with Rhinne being France - Prussia trench warfare).
Differences being USSR (Russia was German enemies from the getgo in WW1 and allies in WW2... none of which being true here).
Third of all, Tanya said it herself that Empire has no means of ending this war, if they are fine with winning "some" war (after that French guy run off to Africa).

Well, while I'm not entirely sure what period you're referring to with the Germans and Russians as allies (the doomed collaboration of the 1930s?), the sacral attack on Moscow and the confrontation with the Stalin/Beria duo was clearly inspired by WWII at the very least. Anyway, I didn't expect Zen to eventually return to a more historically accurate status quo after such doses of satire on imperialism and right-wing militarism, but I'll be really interested to see how he does it, considering that at this point Tanya can seemingly destroy entire armies with Serebryakova and her loyal squad.

Eeliejun nailed it with their explanation and I agree the LN is the weaker version. Huge tangents about economic theories abound within the novels. I made a comment about this topic earlier when the translators let everyone know that Troubadour was manga original, so I'll just stick it here for you:

Back then I mentioned they added many characters but didn't explain further so some might have thought I was talking about just people like Troubadour. Nah lol. As an example, in her battalion there's Weiss, Grantz, and Serebryakova that have names. That's it. Neumann and his strength enhancing magic to chuck a building this chapter? Nope. Koenig? Never heard of 'em. Rotten potato boy? Who now?

I won't go on further because there are tons of additions. We are getting close to some new LN characters being introduced though so we all have that to look forward to.

I guess there is some dissonance there. I don't remember the wording specifically, but there can be multiple metrics to define the most elite. Tanya's battalion is certainly the most elite in terms of training as she pioneered the methods.

While she was making a name for herself as the Devil of the Rhine, other forces were defending against the Alliance's push to the north. Thanks to the manga we now know who was racking up all the kills in that theater. Plus she's been sent to places like Dacia where her unit did the unthinkable and won the day for the Empire single-handedly. Great work for her elite mages. They didn't shoot down a single enemy mage to do it though, so they aren't really competing with the same metric.

Well the anime is behind the manga at this point but things are being done in reverse order e.g. Mary's dad dies sooner in the anime but in manga it isn't until a few volumes later. Currently a new season of TtE was announced some years back after that movie.

Again the anime to manga order of operations is all messed up. Like Mary is no where to be seen in the Russy Fed arc by this point in the manga. Meanwhile in the anime, she was clear and present as day+got saved... idk why they did it like this.
