Well, Kuromine only liked Haruno as a friend after all, although his feelings he had were "romantic" to him at first it was just friendship, only when meeting Ayana he experienced true love.

Haruno began to love Kuromine after he got into relationship with Ayana, something she didn't experienced when being childhood friends, but had her heart broken.
Then when he came back after knowing the truth about Ayana, she fell in love again just to see he still loves her, getting broken hearted again...
