@yldDavid : but no effort is ever put into making these "kicked out" or "betrayed" scenarios the slightest bit realistic. Especially since they are supposed to be a tightly knit group of fighters off to save the world.
If it was just two random merc groups backstabbing each other for more pay...yea okay. But the fantasy equivelent of a special ops team doing this kind of shit, often involving world spanning conspiracies that are years in the making...it just breaks suspension of disbelief.
Even in your typical highschool "Guy A hates Guy B and tries to get him kicked out of the group" situation, its more likely that Guy B will take his supporters and leave instead of a perfect "everyone else vs MC" situation. And a hero party isnt made up of random highschoolers either, the staple is a party of veteran fighters/mages with many years of experience working in teams.
Its just impossible to take these stories seriously when the author fails to put in any effort at all to come up with a believable plot. Its like claiming that aliens did 9/11 or something. Just impossible to take the author seriously at that point.
