when there are characters on the cover but the protagonist is absent, it usually means the protagonist is terrible

is this an exception to that?

@rkkn Actually...it kinda doesn't -really- have a protagonist. Like it has someone that looks like one but as the story progresses you start to realize the 'protagonist' is more like the desire to learn. Who ever wants to learn the most at that that point in the story tends to be who it focuses on.
