It's so true that people often conflate trying to verify the worth of one's achievements with seeking validation from others, and pretend that they're trying to be a free thinker when all they really want is to avoid failing at something and feeling bad. I've done this a lot in my life...
In the same way, many people try to conflate being fit with fat shaming, or working out with being a "toxic gym bro". It's so easy to distract yourself from your own insecurities by judging others, but that's not a kind way to think.
That said, social media often makes kids depressed or anxious, and that's not good.
