i just finished reading the (i think) up to date webnovel chapter, chapter 297.

the story starts at a 7/10, lowers to a 6/10 about halfway through and by the time i got to chapter 297 it was like a 4-5/10 for me.
mc was even worse 'cause it's an interesting concept that really held ground for most of the novel but "intentionally unlikable" is still unlikable and the author knows how to write a character that just kind of fuckng sucks, and gets worse as the novel progresses.

kinda feels like the author started burning out and was just pumping chapters out.

The author of the novel, is the same of Novel's Extra, he always started his novels strong, but in the middle it's goes downhill.

This isn’t going to be able to support its own weight in the future. They’ve dropped too much of the foundational world building.

They are moving the plot along so quick you don’t feel that months have passed. So much of his later cleverness is supposed to be set up in these early chapters. Actually important slow moments of him figuring out how the world works.

Their habit of jumping “10 minutes back” for every new event is going to feel like a cheap cop out when they need to flashback to months and years ago to explain the end of the book.

The biggest thing the’ve skipped is the lesson where he realizes how strong his manipulation has grown. Only two students pass and that magic stone euphrane gets is pretty useful in the story.

They seem to be skipping all of the lessons in fact. Which is going to bite them in the ass when no one know how the magic works, and we don’t really see how his reputation is shifting.

On the translation side, crimson-blooded is so wrong it’s already affecting the plot, and will interfere with a major plot beat later. They are called demon-blooded for a reason. That phrase instantly explains why everyone hates them so much. It also make his “you are human” hit harder.

TL : DR
5/10: it’s got the same shape, and most of the characters fit their sparse book descriptions, but this is not going to be able to go the distance with how much they are cutting out. The heavy cutting should happen later but at this rate there will be nothing left by then.

So I was not the only one who felt that way, I am currently at chapter 226 of the Novel, and I am thinking of dropping it, its so slow it's killing me, and it was slow for the past 226 chapters.

Also, the story often felt weird and uncanny.

I found it cheap that the author represented Deculein as an evil, egoistic, aristocratic elitist who only thinks about profit, ready to
trample anyone even his close friends, but later in the story he tries to show him in a better light, I think it's called Whitewashing?

(Yea he is an evil psycho, he basically killed his close friend for his invention/studies) later: (because of his friend, Deculein's lover died, also Kagan Luna hated his daughter Epherene so its fine?) (???) why doing this? Let Deculein repent ffs....

(Yea, he strangled Sylvia's mother in cold blood, and swore to kill her daughter too) later: (Well, she was sick anyway, and she would die in a month, also killing her was a part of a contract he made in order to kill his father Decalain who was even bigger evil something something ........ )

(Deculein stole the Kagan's research material, as result Kagan committed suicide), later (Kagan wasnt smart enough to finish his studies anyway) (???)

Why portraying Deculein's victims evil or stupid???

From chapter 1 it's clear that the current Deculein is merged with the player Kim Woojin, their souls combined, so why is the influence of his original soul is so non-existent?

He never shows empathy to anyone, his sister Yeriel, the best affection he ever showed was "I don't hate you" when she was crying on her knees when finding out she wasn't his sister and was a scarlet-born, duuuuude hug her ffs, comfort her..........
tell her its fine.......

His fiancée Julie von Deya-Freyden, the original Deculein was obsessed with her, maybe even loved in cruel way, "he wanted to own her because she was a pitiful woman who never owned anything", he never showed true affection, nor before or past his transportation to a different world, (he told her that he would like to see her smile once a day, wow...) also the author decided to create an enigmatic curse that would shorten her life span if she loves Deculein, as result he did everything so she would want to murder him..... to cure her.......................

Epherene Luna and the Sylvia Von Yossepin Iliade, they're knowledge and power grew so fast they both quickly (in one year) become stronger than Deculein, all he did was to say "well done" or some BS like "you have the right to kill me", he was an absolute butthole to Epherene when she was his protégé, tearing her works and tossing to her face, hello Mr. Kim Woojin, you are using the System to dissect magic and understand it, all you have to do is to spend your mana, she doesn't have that.

He built a freakin Gulag in a dessert for the scarlet-born, so they would act as a meat shield in case a monster wave would erupt? wat

The empire was building gas chambers for scarlet-born, and he didnt do anything to prevent that? ok, he made sure there are no gas chambers on his territory, but is that all he could do? the Queen listens to his every word and respects him.

Do I really need to read 2–3 chapters how Deculein and the Queen Sophien wrote letters to each other, when they could just call using magic spheres? And how shallow their whole relationship is?

Deculein spent like 1000 years with Sophien experiencing her regressions, and after 1000 years their relationship hasn't changed? really? Deculein age + Kim Woojin age barely surpasses 50, and he spent x20 years with one person, and he didn't even tell her that he treasured her?

He didn't reveal any deep emotions towards her? I would even accept if Deculein showed pity towards her, or if he was mad at her for being pathetic, but no..... with a brick face he just told her "i'm going to look after you, don't kill yourself, ok bye!"

Come to think of it, I don't even like the story, I wonder how the hell I've read 226 chapters.......

this used to be a massive vent about why light novel's ending is bad, but after a few hours i changed it because i think that overall it is not bad media to read, not great but not bad either. If you have nothing to do, this is not the worst time to spend your time

completely agree with pretty much all of this, it really feels like the author is just following the story synopsis without actually plotting out story points beforehand. like at the end of each arc he's like "okay what next.....". and the constant struggle to keep the mc as a "villian" while still writing him to be someone to root for makes him end up just kinda feeling like a terrible person. so often parts of the story feel contrived so that mc >has< to do terrible Adolf Hitler while secretly not wanting to or whatever. the author didn't have to write it like that and the most recent chapters feel like the author's trying to roll it back very suddenly. it's just kinda messy...
