- Why isn't executed, arrested, or at least exiled for murder?
Probably because his whole family was executed in his place. He was probably left off since he was such a 'loyal' butler.
- Why are the authorities so stupid that they can't see who would profit the most from the murder of the heirs?
Probably because they cant just raise their fingers against a marquess especially when the only heirs alive are her children. They need definite proof to do anything against a high ranking noble like her and I'm sure we all ln now she wouldnt have left any proof.
- Why is he in the slums? Does he not have any other property elsewhere?
The imperial family probably took all his land back when he was demoted from being a noble since he did supposedly murder the marques' heirs.
- Why didn't her mother have them killed? They might be potential threats in the future.
This one was probably to show her generosity or something. I mean it's not likely that such an old man who lost his family could ever do anything against her.
- The MC knows she's heading to the slums, so why didn't she wear the hood earlier?
I think that was forgetfulness.

All of this is my own speculation and none of this has to be true in the next chapter. This is just a logical reason for all the questions.

@gum_rummy It's not drawn very well, a slum would have little grass or sunlight because to the crowded conditions trampling grass underfoot and zero enforced building codes making narrow streets/alleyways where the sun doesn't reach, the streets seem way to wide. The trees, especially dead ones should have long been cut down for firewood. People die from lack of firewood in the winter, who would leave free heating just sitting there? But I'm assuming it's a city slum where space should be at a premium. There seems to be open spaces and remnants of building rubble like some half destroyed war torn village.

Okay! I did not see that coming, to practically end an entire bloodline but 1 person.. I sort of hate her more than Thanos and he erased half a galaxy.

Her mom is even worse than I thought. Luckily she and her equally trash son will get what they deserve.

Poor butler, he is really loyal if he's angrier about her mom killing his master's family than the fact his family was framed for the murder.

Awesome, so glad to see people analyzing the little inconsistencies of manhua like this.

While we're at it, my largest source of confusion (and one that comes up a lot) is why the nobility in similar manhua always have bright, colorful hair(and often eyes). MC's reasoning for hiding her hair in the slums is because her "hair color draws attention". This implies that colorful hair is unique to the nobility- and in fact, we have seen red, pink, blue, and blonde hair among the ruling class, and yet somehow all the peasants have some variation of brown hair.

I think this motif is a grave mistake because it implies that somehow, the nobility are genetically different from the working class(no mention of artificial hair coloration has ever come up, so I must assume otherwise). This happens so much that we never even bat an eye, and even take it for granted. If I were to look deeper into it, I would say that this is a perpetuation of some nasty, ancient beliefs, but I'll go no further.

Also, she's fooling nobody when she's standing beside a prince-type in yellow pants and a cravat.
