Yeah, so basically the author kinda stooped developing the MC. His existence became a means to an end for our lead, and very one dimensional. When I say simp, I meant that after a while when you read the story you felt that he only breathed for her, fk everything else. If she wanted she would get it kinda feeling. Even after they get married, it's like she's the one 'wearing pants'. It left me really disappointed. As a crown prince/future king he shouldn't be so easily led on? There's a part in the novel that he says something to the likes of (not a quote, from my memory): "Even if you become/do evil, I'll still support you." When asked if he would still love her dark side. And believe me, there's a lot of dark stuff going on. But, in my view, no counter, no balance. Just pure REVENGE, and he's completely fine with it.

Hope the manga does it better.
Ps.: If you ever wondered, the current KING, that we never hear about, is a coward that was afraid of the aristocrat faction all of this time, and was hiding away, somewhere. Another useless male... Specially if you think that the aristocratic party was being led by a minor girl lulz...

Well... if we think about it, there's plenty of stories where the FL is innocent or stupid and pretty much supports the ML in everytinhk he does just because she's so in love with him and, as long as he's also in love with her and treasures her, she's fine with everything, even when she suffers from it. And many people like those kinds of shoujo. Soooo... even though this is not an excuse for dumb behavior I can't really complain that here it's the other way around.
