...Oh, shit. Blue stones were meant to replace the lifeforce draining, but there's side effects, huh?
Definitely. The real question, though, is how obvious were the side effects? Did the previous heroes actually look like monsters before the end? Because, if not, and Argo tried to put them out of their misery, that would go a long way towards explaining why there's a belief that a blacksmith killed the heroes.

Well, there we go... The last great blacksmith tried to save the heroes and unleashed something terrible. Now we just need to see just how bad this all went. (Hoping our current heroes can maintain composure at this revelation, and don't make things even worse.)

Ohh. Good point there!

he clearly put a blue stone in a bunch of heroes so the results probably weren’t immediately obvious or else he’d have stopped sooner. They probably lost more and more of themselves over time.

Thanks for uploading the chapter!

Damn, that's one big revelation. Hmmm I am thinking the bluestones might actually serve as a substitute. Like it is what gets eaten by the holy relics the heroes use as weapons, instead of their own life force. If you put them on already dead vessels, well they turn into monsters (like those humanoid blue stone enemies they fought). The bluestones probably ended up on some monsters through some means but we'll see.

Fortunately the situation isn't quite as urgent yet for Relius as it was for Argo.

An interesting question is why the sacred treasures drain the heroes' lifeforce, but blacksmiths seem to be okay.

Probably because the blacksmiths don't really use their sacred treasures. Relius has brought his out a couple times to break down new items and only used it as a weapon against the guy with the spear. Meanwhile the heroes are using their sacred treasures for sparring probably multiple times a day.

I'm betting on why the weapons are connected to each individual's souls but because the blacksmiths are destined to only craft tools, weapons and such, they are removed from this dangerous cycle of life. There has to be a reason why it's specifically made for them and only for them to use it.

My guess would be that if it's only the heroes' sacred treasures that do it (and not everyone's, like someone else postulated), it's probably some kind of divine countermeasure; i.e., if it's slowly killing them to use their treasures, if a hero, say, went off the deep end and tried to conquer the world, they'd probably die to the life drain before they did too much harm.

Alternatively, this could be a situation where whatever deity gives the treasures is empowered and alive solely through the worship they receive, making the life drain a petty and vindictive way to ensure the heroes don't overstay their welcome and begin drawing away the deity's worship after their victory.

Judging by Argo's narration, he was trying to bring his Hero friends back to life and made them into super zombie monsters instead. Unfortunate.
