This felt a bit more contrived than the past 2 stories in this volume but ehh. Thank you for the chapter!
To be fair this has been going on for a while. As much as we all (presumably) like this genre, at some point they were bound to hit the bottom of the barrel and have to start scraping.

She wasn't even a villainess here, lmao. She just existed while the prince was busy banging baron daughters.

Aight, that was cute. I don’t think these types of stories have to be anything new or groundbreaking to be an adorable little love story. We’ve seen all these tropes before in the past, but I think it’s charming all the same.

I wish instead of villainess that they titled this anthology something about "Even though I had my engagement broken..." since almost all of these ladies have just been nice people or victims and only a handful have had anything even remotely approaching villainy.

2 thoughts on this:

First, the "Villainess" trope for Korea & Japan originates from otome games, where the Villainess is more of a story role than a personality type. While it's generally ideal if the 2 overlap, it's hard to root for a genuinely evil character. There are some manga out there that manage to pull it off, but it's usually a "reality check" storyline where the villainess is strict but smart.

Second, I have to respect the King's decision here. The ability to force people to tell the truth is invaluable, assuming the person with the ability isn't an idiot (which the MC here isn't). The use cases in diplomacy and counter-intelligence are numerous, with the simple threat of their use doing more work than direct application.

Sort of an okay gimmick but the romance was absolutely stupid. Dude who ended up with her is an 8 year old in a third rate yandere's body.

Villainess or not, how the heck is she able to see and walk without bumping into things before?? They said her eyes are narrow but all I see is the usual closed eyes trope 😂

Simple and cute!
Though probably the very least in even attempted Villainess-ness of almost any with the title or tag I have ever seen! XD

Was the whole "I've been poisoning my own father and fucking another girl" even needed?

It felt so fucking unnecessary, like making 1 seem significantly worse to prop up the other (regardless of if he was in love or not)

"nice" light romance story but villainess's story this was not, not at all.

Feels like the further go advance in this anthology the more the authors completely lost the premise

I swear I've read this plot before, or something similar enough to be indistinguishable :thonk:

My guess at least for the first half is you're thinking of a story from this very anthology, Volume 10's "The Veil Princess Smiles at Night: The Real Reason She Hid Her Face" which ALSO focuses on a girl who hides her eyes due to their special power, and the prince annulling the engagement because he and everyone else around him was too stupid to keep him informed about said magic eyes

Just goes to show how disposable these stories are :lul:
