Thanks for the new chapter!

Makes me wonder, is that Suou Grandpa the one who made Masachika watch all those Russian movies with him? (consequently enabled Masachika to understand Russian right now)
That's Grandpa Kuze, with whom he stayed while the family was breaking apart on paper and where he was when he began his first relationship with Masha. He even won and gifted her that bear she adores during this period, though he doesn't actually win it with her in mind.

Ah yes, student council. The thing in anime and manga that carries so much power and respect. High school student council... at least Kill la Kill made fun of it lol
It might be exaggerated, but scholastic accomplishments like "high school president" do have an impact on your reputation and ability to sell yourself. It shows a capacity for leadership and charisma, as well as administration. I imagine that's especially so in Japan, where they treat education very seriously. Add on top a prestigious school and/or prestigious family, where proving you're the best of the best means that much more (at least in some peoples' minds) and you've got... well, a mess caused by rich dodders messing in their childrens' and grandchildrens' lives.

Even after being Yukis opponent, she still comes over to his house to hang out. Her collection is still there. :3

Masachika eventually gets tired of the psychic damage her trolling inflicts on Alya (along with the shitstorm Nonoa kicks up to spilt the pair up for her own purposes) and spills that particular secret to her on his own. Because fuck that shitty old man.
Which chapter in the novel is that?

I'm sorry for Yuki, but now I want her to lose the elections just to spire the annoying grandfather.
I'm curious to see Ayano's reaction. Does she values Masachika's happiness as well, or does she sees him only as someone who should support and enable Yuki?

Not only can't we do that, we'll eventually come to learn that both his dad and Yuki have been keeping a huge family secret from him for years, one that makes this chapter's revelation seem kinda pointless and stupid in-universe.
oh god, that sounds potentially story destroying. how bad is it?

Hard to tell. Masachika spends a fair chunk of V8 at varying levels of pissed at Yuki, their dad their mother and that shitty old man, but puts off confronting the lot of them to deal with more immediately pressing issues (like Alya's deepening spiral into hopelessness and Masha's ramped-up level of pursuit). V9 is shaping up to be where it all blows up on somebody.

Basically, the entire family has been lying to Masachika all these years. His dad wasn't romantically interested in that French diplomat (who we may get to here at some point) at all but had been continuing to spend most of his time in-country rather than abroad and had been doing so at the Suou compound and had continued his romantic relationship with his ex-wife while she's apparently been trying to recover from the severe emotional and psychological issues that lead her to abuse and neglect Masachika and physically assault her husband. Yuki has been covering for their dad by spending so much time at Masachika's place to keep him from noticing just how little his dad has been around.

Oh, and, obviously, Masachika is the only member of the family subject to that shitty old man's demand that he completely cut himself off from the house.

...What. This isn't right. All these lies and coverup. So what happened to the demand of no more association with the Suou family? What the hell is even going on anymore.

He's the only one who's supposed to be bound by it, and he's decided to stop doing that, at least where Alya's concerned. We'll start seeing the fallout from that decision in V9.

This makes no fucking sense. What need there was to lie to him about all this. I mean, maaaybe in the beginning, when he was young? But not to this date.

I would completely hate my family if they pulled this shit on me, and cut off contact with them completely. Because keeping this kind of secret is not protecting or helping me, it's abuse. I have a right to know, since it directly affects my life.

And I would not appreciate being abused by my own family....

Exactly, anyone in that place would and should completely break of contact.

Like sure he separated from the family but they aren't blind to the reason. Now that the reason itself is kinda not there why isolate him still, he has every right to know, so that he too can get over it, and wouldn't him knowing and then forgiving his mother ALSO HELP HER RECOVER?

I say he should confront them all and finally cut off contact, fuck the mothers recovery too."

I'd go even further and self harm myself in front of them to hurt them more, fuck them all. "Oh don't hurt Yuki", sure he tried his best to not hurt her, but what about him, does he not have any rights? Is he not human? Does he not warrant any care? Horrible family, especially Yuki, who couldn't treat him right when she's that close. Even became more of a burden for him.

And then he has Alya and Masha to deal with too. Poor Masachika. Just can't catch a break.

Welp I'm off to binge the novel to see his trash of a family, cause guess this is where the wholesome Alya allure plot stops.
