I didn't say she's not committed I said she's not showing commitment. That's a communication failure on Misono's part. And I'm hardly holding how they got together over their heads I'm saying publicly their relationship hasn't advanced at all since then and Misono refuses to do anything to actually calm her girlfriend
Everytime Asuna spirals, Misono is there to talk with her. The issue has been Asuna keeps things to herself until it explodes. Misono is not a mind reader.

What's worse is I'd ask people to go back through the chapters and recognize that nearly every time Asuna spirals and keeps issues to herself, Misono is understanding and asks Asuna to speak her mind. Misono hasn't created an atmosphere of close-mindedness, so it makes less sense that Asuna continues to act as if she doesn't have an understanding girlfriend.
Yeah, summed it up basically. It's just frustrating to read when Girl A is deadlocked on keeping things to themselves, while Girl B in the relationship wants to communicate to figure out how to make it work. Like sure I understand if there's insecurity(esp with a same gender relationship), but listen to your significant half for Bob's sake, she wants to make things work while Girl B is "nah I'mma keep this stuff bottled up until I explode kinda scenario". Ugh, why are these "tropes" or whatever you call it getting so damn common on every manga I read, I hate it.

Asuna does have a tendency to hold stuff in, that's true, but do you honestly think that if the same problem keeps appearing over and over for months Misono couldn't do something more than just going "No I'm not gonna dump you" like I'm hardly asking for the moon from her but some sort of action. That isn't too much right?

She always asks Asuna to speak her mind, like in this chapter. Asuna then speaks her mind and Misono tries to reassure her. I don't even think Misono fully understands the depths of Asuna's spiraling because she doesn't get the POV we do. She can't read her mind like we can. She works with what she's given.

What else should she do? Constantly reassure her? Should she have apologized for the sin of having boys ask her out months ago? Should she say, "yeah next time I'll out myself for you, since it made you uncomfortable?"

I feel like the bar being out up for Misono is unfair. Comparatively, all Asuna needs to do is talk with her GF instead of the guy who likes her and asked her out. Spend that time with your GF insead. Let her know you're uncomfortable, and how much you're uncomfortable. That's not much to ask for, no? I feel like one is easier than the other.

Sorry for the late reply, somethings going on at work

I really don't think I'm holding her to an impossible standard to say she could do an act like finding a way to go on dates more often, or maybe they could get a matching item. Some small token to share between them. I haven't even brought up boys asking her out, it was a source of insecurity for Asuna but that was moved past. The issue is that the same problems keep happening no matter how many times they talk and Asuna has nothing more than words to fall back on. It's just hard for her to trust Misono. So then when we reach this point and Asuna lashes out a little Misono slapping her (which I know you never defended) and then saying they shouldn't be near each other for a while just seems like the wrong reaction and makes her come across as callous

I'm with nevik on this one, I will admit Misono is far from perfect but I think she's been taking tremendous strides towards self-improvement in her relationship with Asuna. In contrast, Asuna's issues with self-doubt have only gotten worse and worse the longer things have gone on. Asuna's problem isn't just that she has trouble opening up to her girlfriend, even after Misono tries her best to reassure her she just falls back into the same slump once again.

You're not wrong but I think Asuna's slump comes from the fact that nothing ever changes. She can't feel secure the way things are, words obviously don't carry enough weight to them in this instance. Maybe it would even be best for her mental health for them to break up but obviously neither of them want that.

Don't worry about the replies. I'm just off work and I get alerts, so I can jump back in quicker.

As for your points, we don't see everything they do as a couple. I don't doubt that they've had dates and we seem them together. The author chooses what they show, there.

Do we really believe Asuna's issue would disappear because of an extra date or a gift here or there? She spirals over the slightest slight. Misono isn't doing enough by communicating and reassuring her GF? The fault lies mostly at her feet here? I can't see it.

Asuna's issues are deep seated and her own. The issue will only solve itself when she really stops to think about where she's at and what she wants. How about we consider Misono's psychology too? How she must feel to be doubted this much? To have these constant anxieties thrown her way? She's done well considering. She's being nitpicked.

Misono is once again doing the mature thing here (besides the slap, of course). She heard Asuna out (again) and recognized they need space to really assess what they each want out of a relationship together. Asuna has to decide whether she's comfortable with someone who is closeted and whether it might be actually be easier to date a guy, like she flippantly said.

I think you might be right here, I did say in my original post it may be bias towards the MC since we know exactly what she's thinking at all times. I just think it reads badly with that information for Misono to suggest distance when Asuna's fear is the already existing distance she feels from her due to their own dynamic.

Just a heads up: I made some edits to my comment before I realized you'd replied. I agree that it's harsh but Misono is a person too. She gets hurt too. She feels anxiety. So much of this feels like unconsciously centering Asuna and treating Misono like she's an adult who should know better. And that's the problem with their relationship at the moment.

Her girlfriend has been hanging out with a guy who she knows likes her, so much so that everyone thinks they're dating. Said GF then confesses to that by wondering, to her face, "maybe it might be easier to actually date a guy" (which reads as "maybe it might be easier if I were dating that boy"). How is she supposed to react to that? After she's been reassuring her constantly. I'd need a break too.

This seems very much like a problem that just listening or talking it out or whatever can't resolve. One partner clearly wants more from this relationship than the other can or is willing to give.

Looking at their relationship from the start, really, it's always seemed tilted in Misono's favor to me. First with stringing Asuna along while staying with her boyfriend. That part of the manga was cute and all but it was also Misono taking advantage of Asuna's infatuation so she could try to have the best of both worlds. Now they're together, but Misono still wants to keep up this facade of "normalcy". That means she gets to keep going along as usual and all the responsibility for upholding the status quo falls on Asuna.

It's clear by this point that just trying to address Asuna's worries with words won't work, but Misono appears to be totally unwilling to try anything else. If she won't compromise here she should probably just break it off, but she won't because she really likes Asuna and once again quite selfishly wants the best of both worlds. Asuna wants more, Misono can't or won't give any more. People act selfishly and immaturely and irrationally, especially when they're in love! It's great!

It's very weird seeing something I started on a whim lead to this much discussion, I swear. (I know these aren't giant forum threads or anything but it's more than I expected.) For all I'm "not a proper translator", I'm still pretty confident I haven't mistranslated anything to the extent that anybody's interpretations are flat-out wrong/getting the wrong idea - if that makes sense - so that's something, I guess? (E.g. I was a bit unsure about the exact wording of The Bit Where Asuna Goes Too Far, but I was pretty certain she does, essentially, say "Who would give a damn about anything I do, eh? Eh? ...whoops".)

FWIW I've said this before, sort of, but for the most part I guess I'm feeling that while some of the individual character moments do still carry a surprising amount of weight, and I think most of the main characters feel "real" and evoke sympathy to some extent, it's long since gotten a tad ridiculous that Dosukoi leans so heavily on the same plot beats to beat us over the head with "I can't trust anybody or anything because I'm anxious" again, and again, and again, with far too little consistent progression to show how the other person in a relationship would really react to this. I don't think of what we've seen as a smooth gradient up to "Okay, now I've had enough, we have to take drastic action" at all.

(At the same time I do sort of still enjoy working on it - it's like a challenge to do the best job I can with my limited skills even though it's frustrating me, I guess? I don't think I could handle it if it was full-length chapters of this all the time, but I've partly stuck with it since it's pretty short-form.)

Honestly speaking, Asuna is right about the whole thing. I get why Misono is not ready to come out yet Her future, parent reactions, school and classmate reactions... etc etc. They aren't even in the university yet so I get why Minaso kept the relationship secret. But 'There's no smoke without fire', whatever her implication is, it's downright stupid and selfish, especially when she is the one who want to keep their relationship secret.
Asuna was feeling suffocated about the whole relationship that they have to keep secret. Both of them really need to talk things through about what they want, what they can and can't give to each other currently.

It's kinda funny to go to the comments to see people agree that this went badly but completely disagree on who's to blame.
Both but more blames goes to Minaso. "There's no smoke without fire" what the hell she is thinkin when she wlouldn't want to confirm their relationship. What does she want Asuna to do? Not to talk to her classmate? Not make friend with boys? Both are unreasonable request even on 'straight' relationship.

I though she meant it that they wouldn't have people bothering them about their relationship if everyone thinks she's dating that guy. I feel like the way guys are now often confessing to misono now that she's "single" is bothering her not only because she's jealous but also because it feels like her relationship is less real in a way.
