@Redice It's not the translation. Reading it raw and you get pretty much the same thing. As literally as I can think of, it would be "Today, you and me may become not being close friends" If anyone else wants to verify, the original phrase is アタシとおまえは今日親友じゃなくなるかもしれねぇ .
@potatoesriceandbread I don't quite think that example is as universally applicable as you think it is. After all one major difference being, how many of your friends actually will ever see your dick as opposed to your girlfriend who probably will often? Even for friends, knowingly and continually attacking a persons insecurity can be major problem that may cause you to not like that person so much anymore. I feel like this is more or less largely an issue of arguing semantics mostly, but IMO if you cannot say that you are also friends with your girlfriend you are likely stating that you have no commonality between you other than sexual attraction, which is the tell-tale sign of an unhealthy relationship to begin with and one that is likely to fail. After all if you don't actually like your significant other as a person you will have to endure much in order to even simply cohabitate with them for prolonged periods outside of the bedroom. Looks aren't forever and the spark that brought you together will eventually fade if that is all you have.
@Liar Exactly, I've never understood why it's commonly decided that you're either friends or lovers.
Maybe I'm the weird one thinking that love is the summum of friendship, sonce they're a lot of guys saying "My gf/bf is my lover, but if we break up, no way we become just friends", but I personaly see it as something really stupid.
@Liar@BaGamman Same, I've always though that if both of you are mature enough to accept that it just didn't work, friendship can survive a romantic break up, I'm actually currently dating my best friend (took me about a decade though XD), I've never understood how people can start dating someone they just met or don't really know well.
@BaGamman@ichigoteguz With a serious and passionate relationship, I don't believe people can be friend again after a breakup. It hurts by just seeing the other's face and hurt even more when seeing them with another bf/gf. If you still has feeling for the other person then it is impossible to stay just friend since you will always want them to come back. Things would be really awkward. Plus there would be some jealousy from the current bf/gf. When you cross the line from friend to lover, there is no going back. Even people who said they are still friends don't really meet each other that much and will avoid meeting each other if they can. That happen to my classmates. The 2 of them was best friends, always sat next to each other through high school then started dating on senior year. Now they don't even meet each other anymore and it has been 8 years. It doesn't help that the man's current wife is the insanely jealous type that always afraid he would get back with his ex.
If people can stay friends after a breakup then that means their relationship was not that serious and more on the platonic side, when they broke up, no heart was broke.
She kinda has a point. It's a complicated one because friendship is a good foundation for being in a relationship but once you are you aren't just friends, there is a lot more to it than that and many things that work as friends no longer work as lovers. The relationship is fundamentally different even if some aspects of it feel the same.
If you date your friend and you later break up, it's VERY hard to go back to being friends again... especially if you made it into the sexytime phase of the relationship. If all the very good kids Tomo and Jun do is hold hands and they eventually break up, they could probably go back to being friends.
All these comments about how hard it is to still be friends after a breakup are true, but the question asked in the context was "can we remain friends while in a relationship?" With these two muscle-heads I seriously doubt that would be a problem.
@criver that chemistry being C16H12FN3O3, also known as flunitrazepam or, more commonly, rohypnol!
It's a completely legitimate question by Jun, by the way, although my friendship with my former best friend fell completely apart after she broke off our engagement and indeed relationship.
