Depends mostly on pace of the teaching. Under 80% means you get at least 2 out of 5 questions wrong. Which shouldn’t happen if you’ve understood the material. I’m more confused about places that make getting half the answers wrong a passing grade.
I think you mean 2 out of 10.

Idk where you're from but it's pretty normal for high schools that focus on pushing out students that got into top university here in Vietnam. Some of those are considered prestige. But some special schools are basically just prison even though they serve the same purpose. The difference is that the prestige schools allow only top scorers in high school entrance exam in while the prison schools are basically reformation facility for dumbasses who still want to get into top universities. When I said prison, it's basically prison. The students are locked in there and only allowed to be home on weekends. They spent 12 hours a day just studying. You can quit if you want to btw.
Ngl that sounds like social prison that nagging feeling that your aloud to quit is kinda daunting and with how I understand how most Asian countries run there schools it social suicide to quit with the potential hell that life would do to you because you chose to quit

This I can understand however every time I have talked to a teacher its a matter of getting then to WANT to understand hence why there just fine with passing with 50%

2/5 wrong would be 60%, you can get more than that right and still not score 80%
Actually I meant 3 out of 10 but you get my drift. 2/5 is 60% so not wrong but a lot lower than 80 already.
Actually you are wrong because you said at least 2/5

Jesus Christ, I can’t believe I have to explain basic arithmetic in a manga forum.

2/5 wrong is 3/5 right which is 60% right, that is correct. “More than that right” is 4/5 which is literally 80%. If the threshold is 80% for a passing grade, then 3/5 is a failing grade and 4/5 is a passing grade. That’s why I said “at least 2/5” [mistakes is failing]. 1 mistake out of five questions is pass. “at least” is inclusive.

You manage to fail both math and English in a single sentence. Pay attention in class instead of reading manga.

bro that's only correct if there were only 5 questions, the difference between 60% and 80% is 20%, if someone got say 77% (completely random percentage that isn't relevant) they got fewer than 2/5 wrong and yet somehow, miraculously I guess, they got less than 80% so no, not at least 2/5, the one who failed at both maths and English isn't me it is you, you also failed at basic logic. Understand there was no need to make the fractions for a percentage out of 100 there was no need to turn it into a fraction out of 5 as the MC himself got a mark of 77% and therefore doesn't fit into the random denomination you decided to choose.
