Nah bro, that density is real. You'd be surprised, just as how once a guy gets into their head a girl likes him they'll interpret any and everything as a sign, the opposite is also true, you don't think a girl is into you and nothing short of a billboard could get the hint across and even then some of them will still think they're fucking with em.

The standard Romcom MC is the latter. "She couldn't mean 'I Love You' in THAT way. She just likes me as a friend."

I think JD was saying that she sent him home with that movie expecting him to watch it with Shia. He’s misreading signals from the classmates, which he even notes during the course of the chapter on his own after the delusion that they all like him.

If Mochizuki wanted it to be about her, she’d insist on watching it with him, just the two of them. This has never happened, and never will.

@themanthemyth @Mangamoz @sotokouya Re: the 'jumping the gun' stuff... making me think of Hachiman Hikigaya from RomCom SNAFU (I've only seen the anime, btw) and his backstory as to why he's so pessimistic about adolescent relationships. All that stuff about him thinking the littlest bit of kindness meant a girl liked him back before high school, and the extreme awkwardness when one of those girls runs across him in high school, if I recall..?

I was definitely of the extreme opposite end, where I didn't even notice if girls were trying to be forward with me all through school, even though my sisters said there were lots of girls from my class that were interested in me from the combination elementary+middle school we all went to. Only one of them ever seemed to get through to me to any extent, and that was because she asked me to her school's dance one year in high school, but I stayed so reluctant not knowing how to feel about it I made her ask me as a friend, and hindsight makes me feel like shit about that.
