I think the translation on page 26 might be wrong. Shimizu says "Although we're in the same school now", but according to the flashback, they were in the same school before. She was watching him help people around the school. So it doesn't make sense for her to say "we're in the same school  now".

In reality MMC would have gotten sent to the dirt fast. If the guy truly had a reputation for a short temper then some stern words would have done nothing.
Just because the guy has a short fuse doesn't mean he's an uncontrollable meathead all the time. MC told the guy to think before he does something that can't be undone, so he snapped out of it and in the end he was probably glad to avoid serious trouble. Since MC knew what the guy's damage was, he might've known how to cool him down.
However, it's silly how MC anticipated the whole incident and showed up just in time. Who does he think he is? Batman?

He's not being kind for the sake of other people; he's being kind for his own sake and satisfaction. That's different from many of the romcom protags who are genuinely the (let's admit it very rare IRL) "be kind for the sake of basic decency" type of person. It's both unique but also carries the potential for some worrying, possibly disturbing implications.

Which I think is the intended result. Remember; she didn't fall for him because he helped her. That event was simply the catalyst for putting him on her radar as something more than "weak pushover who can't say no." Her curiosity over his motivations and personality led to her having her eyes on him, and what she saw from there caused her to over time fall for him. It makes me wonder if we'll ever see the moment where she realized "ohey, I really like him."

But, you don't understand, he's incredibly unique. And not like basically every other mob-protagonist in romcoms ever
Shizuma's point of view is that he's forgettable but that's due to her not actually knowing him. We would need other people's perspective to actually confirm that MC is in fact a background character.

While the reason for her liking him is contrived. I do like that the MC reason for intervening wasn't random happen stance but his knowledge of the boy having a temper and seeing the potential confession going badly. That his personal moral compass made him follow through on his hunch.
.
The thing is, I don’t mind a main character who’s too nice, where we see him go out out of his way to help others. Unfortunately, often times it completely lacks any actual depth and completely surface level.

Like without rereading any of the few existing chapters there are, can anyone name off the top of their head any of his hobbies and interests? Or perhaps any unique personality traits, aside from his compulsion for being helpful?

Happy to be proven wrong if the story bothers to flesh it out more, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see this as a one-time exploration of why he tries to help others being the reason she fell for him. Beyond this flashback, it’ll likely be a lot of the usual tropes and cliché setups to keep things moving.

Maybe it’ll be better in anime form. I’ll drop it for now… or forever depending
I don't think this is getting an anime tbh...
Is it just me MC seem off somehow
Author drew generic mob character as love interest
"You have such a short temper that you have a reputation for it, but don't be upset or that'll make you a bad person."

"Oh geez I'm so sorry, I'll never get angry at being rejected again. Now I'm off to adopt some puppies and help an old lady cross the street."

In reality MMC would have gotten sent to the dirt fast. If the guy truly had a reputation for a short temper then some stern words would have done nothing.
IIRC I think there is something about Japan's socialization that makes those kind of escalation harder.

SCP Generico-kun, he wears many faces, but across all manga multiverses, his traits remain the same.

Black short hair, an aura of pheromones that brainwashes females, a powerful mental shield that deflects all emotional attacks from would be mates, and reality bending powers that shape the world around him to allow the most convenient and impossible outcomes.

Subject's only weakness is noise cancelling fireworks, and trucks.
well, black short hair is the description of a LOT of boys in Japan.
to be honest he don't seem to be a mob MC, but the gentle and naive MC with a gentle cute face.

Totally, based on her behavior, she could solve the issue by herself
