Did someone on the team just recently learn the word "cunt"? There have been two instances of it in the last three chapters that didn't suit the original Japanese, the characters, or the context. Even in British-English, which uses it far more casually than American-English, this usage wasn't quite the right flavour for how he usually talks (though far less egregious than when it referred to Eguchi). Still, this is worlds better than the gross all-chav-all-the-time translations a certain other group subjected a slough of shoujo works to. Thanks for all your hard work!

Just because there isn't a literal curse word there in the japanese text, doesn't mean he didn't "mean" it. People literally CANNOT curse in japanese, the language doesn't allow them to. Yet, they've found their own way to disrespect others. Its by being less and less respectful to the other person, using less and less honourifics and such. He might've not said cunt, but he meant it. And since "Oh you!!" wouldn't be really fitting or have any weight at all, we translate it to english, how someone speaking english would disrespect that person in that position. Cunt fits very well in every context I've used it in. This is just how we do our stuff in mylene. Doing a direct translation isn't the best way to translate.

That they chose Catcher in the Rye is very very funny to me! Catcher is one of the prototypes of edgelord media since the mass media age began. MC is a rambly sad sack loser while being the most pretentious asshole around. It's a favorite among lonely men who want to seem smart or superior! Dude only ever published 4 books. Under no interpretation can that be considered 'sooo many.'
And yes, Holden is a bit of an edgelord, I say with affection, as a recovering edgelord myself (you're never fully cured, just in remission) but as with just about every other edgelord character the book is not saying "Hey look how cool this guy is! You should be just like him!" It is saying "Hey check out this deeply confused and insecure kid going through a mental health crisis! Isn't this an experience that many of us can relate to from our adolescence!"

But "cunt" is the grandmother of all curse words (we'll leave ethnic/racial slurs out of the discussion). "Cocksucker" (to a man) and "whore" (to a woman) are pretty bad too. You wouldn't all a girl a "cunt" to her face if you ever wanted her to talk to you again (unless, as them meme says, "The joke's on you! I'm into that shit!").

Even in British English "cunt" is very bad.

Not that I agree with all of these and I'm sure it's by no means "every"...
