He isn’t really making a good point here? He’s been in the world for so long and seen how elevated they are, why hasn’t he tried to meet them a little bit? By his logic of “only being a human” Sui is a slime, and a wildly powerful one at that: why shouldn’t they but up at the front with other wildly powerful beings learning to navigate the outside world, then come back to the “domestic” world where Mukouda would only be cooking? If Mukouda wants to be alongside Sui in that outside world, then it’s his duty to actually attempt to interface with that world in order to rightfully guide Sui in it.
Think about how this chapter actually played out: Mukouda started off by going non-verbal yet displaying negative emotions, then when engaged was unable to clearly express his feelings and had an outburst, then via that emotional outburst separated himself from the group and out of all of the last dozen chapters is the only one to have his inattention put him in a state of “possible” danger due to a trap. He wants to talk about teaching? If he’s worried about unseen dangers, how about learn about how to detect and deal with traps? If he’s worried about Sui’s judgement, how about not ignoring the common sense and experiences of the world by trying to interact with them instead of shutting his eyes and flailing because he’s scared? Instead of treating his fears like everyone else is human, how about making the effort to really understand the strengths weaknesses and considerations of this found family to see things from their perspective and develop working as a unit, not just individuals?
Like on pg. 12, am I to read that as Mukouda chastising them for being careless and to watch where they’re going when those words literally were said by Fel TO him on pg. 7? This is like trying to say “I’m just worried” when no, you have delusional hyper-active anxiety and need therapy to properly interact with the world: onus is on him. They aren’t “denying” Mukouda as much as they are saying “Can you realize how far removed you are that you need to shift your considerations”? If someone has arachnophobia, but gets the same reaction from a tiny housespider AND a tarauntula, it’s not doing them favors to say “Yeah that housespider really deserves this much of a freakout, justified justified.” Man, even when this Author tries to do character development they botch it: worst MC. Something better would be so much easier.
