@Justin There's a lot of reasons why it makes sense that this is happening and why it's ok to happen
but i think the ickiness is just how oblivious and thankful he to these pretty transparently self-centered and just downright awful deals that these country's people keep pushing him into on their own accord, especially when he did save the merchant for little gain and with no ulterior motive.
And yeah they probably won't try to take proper advantage of him here and this one in particular might give him some real benefits, but real life logic just sometimes freaks our brains out. His nonexistent push-back and suspicion might be what does it, especially considering he's already been scammed.
Honestly, not at all as big a deal as i'm making it out to be, but it's one of those instant cringe moments, that'll also probably go away in the time it takes to read the next chapter, because the manga is great in many other ways,
and could also turn this aspect around in later instances as well.
some of them also keep just talking to fenrir and ignoring him, when he's the one obviously deciding and the tamer, which is pretty rude
