The authors seem to have a bit of advanced notice, so they got to build up to the end over 2-3 chapters. That said, the last few chapters of Torako are grade-A mood whiplash, with much of the comedy replaced by drama. The comedy does return at the very end (with a happy ending) and i would say it's worth sticking it out. Not much further now, after all...
