I think it's very in keeping with the themes Zanma-sensei has established that Goro is having trouble breaking out of established gender roles. At the same time, Kogane didn't simply overpower him, a subtle reinforcement that physical power doesn't create an imbalance in their relationship. Also, we just saw that Goro does fulfill the very traditional role of breadwinner, including doling out money to Kogane for her own use. Zanma-sensei clearly has things to say about modern relationships, and I think it's being done masterfully.
And, my, Goro sure is getting bold with the fishcake. Thanks as always to sarusa and Thumper.
