So all we know is Akane is 'about 40' in 'human years' and Kogane is 'about 36' in 'human years'. That being 200+ in calendar years is all my theorizing (and Thumper, we had a long talk about this). Zanma-sensei giveth and Zanma-sensei taketh away.

Honestly, being the equivalent of 36 isn't that bad. Still pretty young all things considered!

If you talk to Gen A anywhere, that's kind of universal 🤣. BUT Japan has this really weird extra thing about how women can't possibly get married over 29 yo, they even call 30+ women 'leftover cakes', too stale to eat. But then other people koff koff would tell you women in their 30s are the perfect combo of being over completely insane (like anyone under 25 is insane, male or female) and peak hubba hubba. Ummm, yeah, anyone got Akane's deets? Just asking for a friend.

That's not even old. Sure, not the typical romcom character ages but not old.
Lots of ear emoting in this chapter, and it is cute.
Anyway if foxes are comparable to humans, "36" is an age where a woman is possibly facing fertility problems already, so Kogane's eagerness to have her children makes sense. Given that Japan as a whole is having a fertility problem, childless-woman-over-30 positivity is also maybe not a cultural attitude shift that would benefit them right now.
My read of this manga's general vibe is that we are probably not going to have a Kogane infertility arc. Rather, I expect we get at least one panel with at least 3 cute kits hanging off Kogane and Goro. But Kogane does not have the benefit of genre savvy.

Basically we need Goro's one year to be up. He is very obviously going to put a ring on it then, and etc etc.
The one infuriating plot armor thing is maybe he doesn't think he's making enough money for cubs yet.
That could be frustrating... but I seem to recall that his boss now is some goddess, maybe even Literally Inari? I feel like business will be good, and that his salary will reflect it.

Yeah, Mogami is THE goddess of foxes, O-inari-sama, you are entirely right. She is his boss - but Goro does not know that and he needs to feel he's financially well off enough to have a dozen cubs without knowing that.

Now that people mention potential future kids I wonder if half yokai differ in any way from regular ones in their universe, since that wasn't really explained in the Tanuki arc but going off O-yome san manga with their half kitsune son is mostly human with him looking more vulpine during emotional outbursts.
Also very physically draining, them being energy vampires and all.

I appreciate that Zanma-sensei gave us an idea what stage of life Kogane is in and then also making it something that doesn't fit in a neat category. 36 isn't young, and it isn't old. It's frustrating, speaking from my own experience, especially when you haven't achieved what you wanted to in your younger years.

I think a "Goro worries about money" arc could be interesting. A major element of this story is that Goro needs to learn to accept Kogane while also not to stress out over doing things the proper human way. Kogane's parents are rich, so a "let us continue to help you" story arc could make for some very cozy fodder.
