@Dverin_Oshiban_Duren I think this is an absurdist/comedic take on powerscaling, so it's not really reliable or meaningful to think about it too much. There's probably not a huge difference between #25 and #50 and #100. But in this universe #1 is so far ahead everyone else looks equal to her. Rather than bother with powerscaling, we should narrative scale. Does the story need a character to be able to do something for the plot? Then they're powerful enough, ta-da.
There doesn't need to be a reason for the rankings, like a higher being using them as you said. Rankings have become a trope, after all. The 'higher being' is the author.
Yeah I think you're right about this manga being an absurdist take on tropes (or at least that's what got me interested in it since chapter 1) and trying to powerscale doesn't make a lot of sense here. Narration definitely matters more in everything.
So far there has been a bit of progression which gave me the idea that it's going to reach a conclusion someday and with that a lot of questions should be answered as well (unless the story is done so well that I can ignore the premise being something that just exists without an explanation).
Sure, right now we can let things like the rankings pass as something that just exists because it's the premise and allows interesting things to happen but much later down the road somebody has to explain what they are because it suddenly appeared. Kinda like a mystery, eh?
This is an interesting manga, reminds me of One Punch Man which was a spoof that became its own thing. I think it did the op MC trope really well by making Saitama a normal dude with financial difficulties and stuff whom most people don't even know and by giving other characters plenty of time to shine.
Maybe I'm overthinking and not completely focused on the right thing or the author is unsure with what this is trying to say.
That's the thing with spoofs and parodies, they could be either garbage, a poor imitation, something better than what it's based on or a cult classic. Depends on the script and execution. As of right now it could be either of them, doesn't feel like there's extensive planning but I hope it will be decent enough.
