Isn't part of the satisfaction of a scream in letting out something audible or has a bit of 'weight' to it? Or maybe what matters more is the brain activity?
What are the chances that her enhanced senses also includes hearing beyond the frequency range of what normal people can hear?

Also when does a significant difference in abilities start to show with the rankings? Like sure, #1 is the strongest and could beat everyone else in terms of strength but what if #256 is just an athlete who is really fit and good at martial arts? I need something for power scaling, man.

Typically in such stories, the rankings would be the creation of some higher being who's trying to filter through all humans to find the strongest one for some reason.
Doesn't feel like the author has a solid idea yet on that part but it can still go well.

From what we've seen it looks folks over a certain threshold start displaying special abilities, but we have no idea where the threshold is.

It does seem like everyone ranking below 1 million are just normal people, though. So 1 million even, out the world's entire surviving population, might be the breakpoint for having some sort of special power?

Though there could be back-and-forth at the the bottom of the "real" rankings between top mundane humans and specials with poor powers or talent.

@Dverin_Oshiban_Duren I think this is an absurdist/comedic take on powerscaling, so it's not really reliable or meaningful to think about it too much. There's probably not a huge difference between #25 and #50 and #100. But in this universe #1 is so far ahead everyone else looks equal to her. Rather than bother with powerscaling, we should narrative scale. Does the story need a character to be able to do something for the plot? Then they're powerful enough, ta-da.

There doesn't need to be a reason for the rankings, like a higher being using them as you said. Rankings have become a trope, after all. The 'higher being' is the author.

@HDMI1 That takes me back!

Yeah I think you're right about this manga being an absurdist take on tropes (or at least that's what got me interested in it since chapter 1) and trying to powerscale doesn't make a lot of sense here. Narration definitely matters more in everything.

So far there has been a bit of progression which gave me the idea that it's going to reach a conclusion someday and with that a lot of questions should be answered as well (unless the story is done so well that I can ignore the premise being something that just exists without an explanation).
Sure, right now we can let things like the rankings pass as something that just exists because it's the premise and allows interesting things to happen but much later down the road somebody has to explain what they are because it suddenly appeared. Kinda like a mystery, eh?
This is an interesting manga, reminds me of One Punch Man which was a spoof that became its own thing. I think it did the op MC trope really well by making Saitama a normal dude with financial difficulties and stuff whom most people don't even know and by giving other characters plenty of time to shine.
Maybe I'm overthinking and not completely focused on the right thing or the author is unsure with what this is trying to say.
That's the thing with spoofs and parodies, they could be either garbage, a poor imitation, something better than what it's based on or a cult classic. Depends on the script and execution. As of right now it could be either of them, doesn't feel like there's extensive planning but I hope it will be decent enough.

I'm surprised that the author actually drew the sauce gun on page 14. I have to wonder if they've worked in those sorts of jobs before.

@Dverin_Oshiban_Duren I don't know if many authors even bother to think that much about it. A ton of LitRPG stories, just use it for the sake of convenience, so they can have a MC level up and show literal growth. And many tend to hand wave what it actually means and requires, so I don't know many stories that actually delve into why in a convincing manner. D-Genesis, seems like it will go over why D-Cards and skills are in English. But for every story like that, you have dozens like Reincarnated as a Sword, where Gods did it. It really depends on what kind of story they want to tell.
