Doesn't matter what her sob-story backstory is, she was the only coward willing to outright kill someone she had no relation to, just to stop someone better than her from succeeding, somebody who considered her a friend.
Out of all possible crimes and sins, Dante reserved the deepest circle of hell for traitors for a reason.
